Matthew 24:29-42

The Coming of the Son of Man

29Immediately after athe tribulation of those days bthe sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and cthe stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30Then dwill appear in heaven ethe sign of the Son of Man, and then fall the tribes of the earth will mourn, and gthey will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven hwith power and great glory. 31And ihe will send out his angels with a loud jtrumpet call, and they will kgather lhis elect from mthe four winds, nfrom one end of heaven to the other.

The Lesson of the Fig Tree

32From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 33So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, oat the very gates. 34 pTruly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 35 qHeaven and earth will pass away, but rmy words will not pass away.

No One Knows That Day and Hour

36But concerning that day and hour sno one knows, not even the angels of heaven, tnor the Son,
Some manuscripts omit  nor the Son
vbut the Father only.
37 wFor as were the days of Noah, xso will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38 yFor as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, zmarrying and giving in marriage, until aathe day when Noah entered the ark, 39and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, abso will be the coming of the Son of Man. 40Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. 41 acTwo women will be grinding adat the mill; one will be taken and one left. 42Therefore, aestay awake, for you do not know on what day afyour Lord is coming.

25And agthere will be signs in sun and moon ahand stars, and on the earth aidistress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, 26people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For ajthe powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27And then they will see akthe Son of Man coming in a cloud alwith power and great glory. 28Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and amraise your heads, because anyour redemption is drawing near.”

The Lesson of the Fig Tree

29And he told them a parable: Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. 30As soon as they come out in leaf, you see aofor yourselves and know that the summer is already near. 31So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. 32 apTruly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all has taken place. 33 aqHeaven and earth will pass away, but army words will not pass away.

Watch Yourselves

34But watch yourselves aslest atyour hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and aucares of this life, and avthat day come upon you suddenly awlike a trap. 35For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36But axstay awake at all times, aypraying that you may azhave strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and bato stand before the Son of Man.”
