Jesus Prays in Gethsemane

36 aThen Jesus went with them bto a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, Sit here, while I go over there and pray.” 37And taking with him cPeter and dthe two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38Then he said to them, eMy soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and fwatch
Or keep awake; also verses 40, 41
with me.”
39And going a little farther he fell on his face hand prayed, saying, My Father, if it be possible, let ithis cup pass from me; jnevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” 40And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, So, could you not watch with me one hour? 41 kWatch and lpray that you mmay not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, nyour will be done.” 43And again he came and found them sleeping, for otheir eyes were heavy. 44So, leaving them again, he went away and prayed for pthe third time, saying the same words again. 45Then he came to the disciples and said to them, Sleep and take your rest later on.
Or Are you still sleeping and taking your rest?
See, rthe hour is at hand, and sthe Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
46Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.”

Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus

1When Jesus had spoken these words, whe went out with his disciples across xthe brook Kidron, where there was a garden, which he and his disciples entered. 2Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew ythe place, for zJesus often met there with his disciples. 3 aaSo Judas, having procured a band of soldiers and some officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, went there with lanterns and torches and weapons. 4Then Jesus, abknowing all that would happen to him, came forward and said to them, acWhom do you seek?” 5They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, I am he.”

7So he asked them again, agWhom do you seek?” And they said, “Jesus of Nazareth.” 8Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. So, if you seek me, let these men go.” 9 ahThis was to fulfill the word that he had spoken: Of those whom you gave me I have lost not one.” 10Then Simon Peter, aihaving a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant

and cut off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.)
11So Jesus said to Peter, Put your sword into its sheath; akshall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?”
