Jesus Before Caiaphas and the Council

57 aThen bthose who had seized Jesus led him to cCaiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered. 58And dPeter was following him at a distance, as far as ethe courtyard of the high priest, and going inside he sat with fthe guards to see the end. 59Now the chief priests and the whole council
Greek Sanhedrin
hwere seeking false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death,
60but they found none, ithough many false witnesses came forward. At last jtwo came forward 61and said, “This man said, k‘I am able to ldestroy the temple of God, and to rebuild it in three days.’” 62And the high priest stood up and said, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?”
Or Have you no answer to what these men testify against you?
63 nBut Jesus remained silent. oAnd the high priest said to him, p“I adjure you by qthe living God, rtell us if you are sthe Christ, tthe Son of God.” 64Jesus said to him, uYou have said so. But I tell you, from now on vyou will see the Son of Man wseated at the right hand of Power and xcoming on the clouds of heaven.” 65Then the high priest ytore his robes and said, z“He has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have now heard his blasphemy. 66What is your judgment?” They answered, aa“He deserves death.” 67Then abthey spit in his face acand adstruck him. And some slapped him, 68saying, “Prophesy to us, you aeChrist! Who is it that struck you?”

Peter Denies Jesus

69 afNow Peter was sitting outside agin the courtyard. And a servant girl came up to him and said, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.” 70But he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you mean.” 71And when he went out to the entrance, another servant girl saw him, and she said to the bystanders, “This man was with Jesus ahof Nazareth.” 72And again he denied it with an oath: “I do not know the man.” 73After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “Certainly you too are one of them, for aiyour accent betrays you.” 74Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know the man.” And immediately the rooster crowed. 75And Peter remembered the saying of Jesus, ajBefore the rooster crows, you will akdeny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.

Luke 22:54-71

Peter Denies Jesus

54 alThen they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest’s house, amand Peter was following at a distance. 55 anAnd when they had kindled a fire in the middle of aothe courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat down among them. 56Then a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the light and looking closely at him, said, “This man also was with him.” 57But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him.” 58And a little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.” 59And after an interval of about an hour still another apinsisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.” 60But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61And the Lord turned and aqlooked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, arBefore the rooster crows today, you will asdeny me three times.” 62And he went out and wept bitterly.

Jesus Is Mocked

63 atNow the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking him as they beat him. 64 auThey also blindfolded him and kept asking him, avProphesy! awWho is it that struck you?” 65And they said many other things against him, axblaspheming him.

Jesus Before the Council

66 ayWhen day came, azthe assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes. And they led him away to their bacouncil, and they bbsaid, 67 bcIf you are bdthe Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, If I tell you, you will not believe, 68and if I ask you, you will not answer. 69But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated beat the right hand of the power of God.” 70So they all said, “Are you bfthe Son of God, then?” And he said to them, bgYou say that I am.” 71Then they said, “What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.”

John 18:13-18

13First they bhled him to biAnnas, for he was the father-in-law of bjCaiaphas, who was high priest that year. 14It was Caiaphas who had advised the Jews bkthat it would be expedient that one man should die for the people.

Peter Denies Jesus

15 blSimon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. Since that disciple was known to the high priest, he entered with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest, 16 bmbut Peter stood outside at the door. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the servant girl who kept watch at the door, and brought Peter in. 17 bnThe servant girl at the door said to Peter, “You also are not one of this man’s disciples, are you?” He said, “I am not.” 18Now the servants
Greek bondservants; also verse 26
and officers had made a charcoal fire, because it was cold, and they were standing and warming themselves. bpPeter also was with them, standing and warming himself.

John 18:24-27

24 bqAnnas then sent him bound to brCaiaphas the high priest.

Peter Denies Jesus Again

25 bsNow Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him, “You also are not one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it and said, “I am not.” 26One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of btthe man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Did I not see you buin the garden with him?” 27Peter again denied it, and bvat once a rooster crowed.
