Matthew 26:6-13

Jesus Anointed at Bethany

6 aNow when Jesus was at bBethany in the house of Simon the leper,
Leprosy was a term for several skin diseases; see Leviticus 13
7a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he reclined at table. 8And when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? 9For this could have been sold for a large sum and dgiven to the poor.” 10But eJesus, aware of this, said to them, Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me. 11For fyou always have the poor with you, but gyou will not always have me. 12In pouring this ointment on my body, she has done it hto prepare me for burial. 13Truly, I say to you, wherever ithis gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told jin memory of her.”

Mark 14:3-9

Jesus Anointed at Bethany

3 kAnd while he was at lBethany in the house of Simon the leper,
Leprosy was a term for several skin diseases; see Leviticus 13
as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head.
4There were some who said to themselves indignantly, “Why was the ointment wasted like that? 5For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii
A  denarius was a day’s wage for a laborer
and ogiven to the poor.” And they pscolded her.
6But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7For qyou always have the poor with you, and whenever ryou want, you can do good for them. But syou will not always have me. 8 tShe has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand ufor burial. 9And truly, I say to you, wherever vthe gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told win memory of her.”
