Jesus Delivered to Pilate

1 aWhen morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people btook counsel against Jesus to put him to death. 2And they bound him and cled him away and ddelivered him over to ePilate the governor.

Jesus Before Pilate

11 fNow Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you gthe King of the Jews?” Jesus said, hYou have said so.” 12 iBut when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he gave no answer. 13Then Pilate said to him, j“Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?” 14But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed.

See how many charges they bring against you.” 5But Jesus umade no further answer, so that Pilate was amazed.

It was early morning. They themselves did not enter the governor’s headquarters, adso that they would not be defiled, aebut could eat the Passover.
29 afSo Pilate went outside to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?” 30They answered him, “If this man were not doing evil, we would not have delivered him over to you.” 31Pilate said to them, agTake him yourselves and judge him by your own law.” The Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death.” 32 ahThis was to fulfill the word that Jesus had spoken aito show by what kind of death he was going to die.

My Kingdom Is Not of This World

33 ajSo Pilate entered his headquarters again and called Jesus and said to him, akAre you the King of the Jews?” 34Jesus answered, “Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about me?” 35Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you over to me. What have you done?” 36Jesus answered, alMy kingdom amis not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, anmy servants would have been fighting, that aoI might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” 37Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, apYou say that I am a king. aqFor this purpose I was born and for this purpose arI have come into the worldasto bear witness to the truth. atEveryone who is auof the truth avlistens to my voice.” 38Pilate said to him, “What is truth?”

After he had said this, awhe went back outside to the Jews and told them, axI find no guilt in him.
