Matthew 27:17-25

17So when they had gathered, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you: Barabbas, or aJesus who is called Christ?” 18For he knew that it was out bof envy that they had delivered him up. 19Besides, while he was sitting on cthe judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, “Have nothing to do with dthat righteous man, for I have suffered much because of him today ein a dream.” 20Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to fask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus. 21The governor again said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.” 22Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” gThey all said, “Let him be crucified!” 23And he said, “Why? hWhat evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Let him be crucified!”

Pilate Delivers Jesus to Be Crucified

24So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that ia riot was beginning, he took water and jwashed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of kthis man’s blood;
Some manuscripts  this righteous blood, or  this righteous man’s blood
msee to it yourselves.”
25And all the people answered, nHis blood be on us and oon our children!”

Luke 23:16-23

16 pI will therefore punish and release him.”

Pilate Delivers Jesus to Be Crucified

18 rBut they all cried out together, s“Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas”— 19a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city and tfor murder. 20Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus, 21but they kept shouting, “Crucify, crucify him!” 22A third time he said to them, “Why, uWhat evil has he done? vI have found in him no guilt deserving death. wI will therefore punish and release him.” 23But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed.
