The Resurrection

1 aNow after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and bthe other Mary went to see the tomb.

Some manuscripts end the book with 16:8; others include verses 9–20 immediately after verse 8. At least one manuscript inserts additional material after verse 14; some manuscripts include after verse 8 the following: But they reported briefly to Peter and those with him all that they had been told. And after this, Jesus himself sent out by means of them, from east to west, the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation. These manuscripts then continue with verses 9–20

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

11But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. 12And lshe saw mtwo angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. 13They said to her, nWoman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, o“They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” 14Having said this, she turned around and psaw Jesus standing, qbut she did not know that it was Jesus. 15Jesus said to her, rWoman, why are you weeping? sWhom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be tthe gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” 16Jesus said to her, Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic,

vRabboni!” (which means Teacher).
17Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to wmy brothers and say to them, x‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to ymy God and your God.’” 18Mary Magdalene zwent and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that he had said these things to her.
