Matthew 28:1-10

The Resurrection

1 aNow after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and bthe other Mary went to see the tomb. 2And behold, there was a great earthquake, for can angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 dHis appearance was like lightning, and ehis clothing white as snow. 4And for fear of him the guards trembled and fbecame like dead men. 5But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6He is not here, for he has risen, gas he said. Come, see the place where he

lay.
7Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, ihe is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” 8So they departed quickly from the tomb jwith fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9And behold, Jesus kmet them and said, Greetings!” And they came up and ltook hold of his feet and mworshiped him. 10Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; ngo and tell omy brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

Matthew 28:16-20

The Great Commission

16Now the eleven disciples pwent to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17And when they saw him they qworshiped him, but some doubted. 18And Jesus came and said to them, rAll authority sin heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 tGo therefore and umake disciples of vall nations, wbaptizing them xin
Or into
zthe name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20teaching them aato observe all that abI have commanded you. And behold, acI am with you always, to adthe end of the age.”

Luke 24:1-51

The Resurrection

1 aeBut on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, aftaking the spices they had prepared. 2And they found agthe stone rolled away from the tomb, 3but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4While they were perplexed about this, behold, ahtwo aimen stood by them in dazzling apparel. 5And as they were ajfrightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, akwhile he was still in Galilee, 7 althat the Son of Man ammust be delivered into the hands of sinful men and anbe crucified and on aothe third day rise.” 8And apthey remembered his words, 9and returning from the tomb they aqtold all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. 10Now it was arMary Magdalene and asJoanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles, 11but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and atthey did not believe them. 12But auPeter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw avthe linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marveling at what had happened.

On the Road to Emmaus

13That very day awtwo of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles
Greek sixty stadia; a stadion was about 607 feet or 185 meters
from Jerusalem,
14and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. 15While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. 16 ayBut their eyes were kept from recognizing him. 17And he said to them, What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad. 18Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?” 19And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was aza prophet bamighty in deed and word before God and all the people, 20and bbhow our chief priests and bcrulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. 21But we had hoped that he was bdthe one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now bethe third day since these things happened. 22Moreover, some women of our company amazed us. bfThey were at the tomb early in the morning, 23and bgwhen they did not find his body, they came back saying that bhthey had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. 24 biSome of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.” 25And he said to them, O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 bjWas it not necessary that bkthe Christ should suffer these things and enter into blhis glory?” 27And bmbeginning with bnMoses and boall the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

28So they drew near to the village to which they were going. bpHe acted as if he were going farther, 29but they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening and bqthe day is now far spent.” So he went in to stay with them. 30When he was at table with them, he took the bread and brblessed and broke it and gave it to them. 31 bsAnd their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And bthe vanished from their sight. 32They said to each other, buDid not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he bvopened to us the Scriptures?” 33And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they bwfound the eleven and bxthose who were with them gathered together, 34saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and byhas appeared to Simon!” 35Then they told what had happened on the road, and bzhow he was known to them in cathe breaking of the bread.

Jesus Appears to His Disciples

36As they were talking about these things, cbJesus himself stood among them, and said to them, Peace to you!” 37But they were ccstartled and cdfrightened and cethought they saw a spirit. 38And he said to them, Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. cfTouch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” 40And when he had said this, cghe showed them his hands and his feet. 41And while they still disbelieved chfor joy and were marveling, cihe said to them, Have you anything here to eat?” 42They gave him a piece of broiled fish,

43and he took it and ate before them.

44Then he said to them, ckThese are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, clthat everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45Then cmhe opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46and said to them, Thus cnit is written, cothat the Christ should suffer and on the third day cprise from the dead, 47and that cqrepentance for the

forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed csin his name ctto all nations, cubeginning from Jerusalem.
48 cvYou are witnesses of these things. 49And behold, I am sending cwthe promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you cxare clothed with cypower czfrom on high.”

The Ascension

50And dahe led them out as far as dbBethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. 51While he blessed them, dche parted from them and was carried up into heaven.

John 20:1-2

The Resurrection

1 ddNow on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that dethe stone had been taken away from the tomb. 2So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, dfthe one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and dgwe do not know where they have laid him.”

John 20:11-29

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

11But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. 12And dhshe saw ditwo angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. 13They said to her, djWoman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, dk“They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” 14Having said this, she turned around and dlsaw Jesus standing, dmbut she did not know that it was Jesus. 15Jesus said to her, dnWoman, why are you weeping? doWhom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be dpthe gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” 16Jesus said to her, Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic,
Or Hebrew
drRabboni!” (which means Teacher).
17Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to dsmy brothers and say to them, dt‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to dumy God and your God.’” 18Mary Magdalene dvwent and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that he had said these things to her.

Jesus Appears to the Disciples

19 dwOn the evening dxof that day, the first day of the week, dythe doors being locked where the disciples were dzfor fear of the Jews,
Greek Ioudaioi probably refers here to Jewish religious leaders, and others under their influence, in that time
Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ebPeace be with you.”
20When he had said this, eche showed them his hands and his side. Then edthe disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you. As eethe Father has sent me, efeven so I am sending you.” 22And when he had said this, he egbreathed on them and said to them, ehReceive the Holy Spirit. 23 eiIf you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”

Jesus and Thomas

24Now ejThomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin,
Greek Didymus
was not with them when Jesus came.
25So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, elUnless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.”

26Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. emAlthough the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, enPeace be with you.” 27Then he said to Thomas, eoPut your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28Thomas answered him, epMy Lord and my God!” 29Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? eqBlessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
