John the Baptist Prepares the Way

1 aIn those days bJohn the Baptist came preaching in cthe wilderness of Judea, 2 dRepent, for ethe kingdom of heaven is at hand.” 3For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah when he said,

f“The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
gPrepare
Or  crying: Prepare in the wilderness
the way of the Lord;
make his paths straight.’”

Jesus Begins His Ministry

12Now when he heard that iJohn had been arrested, jhe withdrew into Galilee. 13And leaving kNazareth he went and lived in lCapernaum by mthe sea, in the territory of nZebulun and Naphtali, 14 oso that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:

the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles

have seen a great light,

on them a light has dawned.”

14 aiNow after John was arrested, Jesus ajcame into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, 15and saying, ak“The time is fulfilled, and althe kingdom of God is at hand; amrepent and believe in the gospel.”

Jesus and the Woman of Samaria

1Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and anbaptizing more disciples than John 2(although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples), 3he left Judea and departed aoagain for Galilee.
