The Baptism of Jesus
13 fThen Jesus came gfrom Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. 14 hJohn would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” 15But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. 16And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, ithe heavens were opened to him, ▼▼Some manuscripts omit to him
and he ksaw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 17and behold, la voice from heaven said, m“This is my beloved Son, ▼▼Or my Son, my (or the) Beloved

Behold, the Lamb of God
29The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, xthe Lamb of God, who ytakes away the sin zof the world! 30This is he of whom I said, aa‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ 31I myself did not know him, but abfor this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” 32And John acbore witness: ad“I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and aeit remained on him. 33I myself did not know him, but afhe who sent me to baptize agwith water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, ahthis is he who baptizes aiwith the Holy Spirit.’ 34And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”John 3:26-36
26And they came to John and said to him, aj“Rabbi, he who was with you across the Jordan, akto whom you bore witness—look, he is baptizing, and alall are going to him.” 27John answered, am“A person cannot receive even one thing anunless it is given him aofrom heaven. 28You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ap‘I am not the Christ, but aqI have been sent before him.’ 29 arThe one who has the bride is the bridegroom. asThe friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, atrejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. 30 auHe must increase, but I must decrease.” ▼▼Some interpreters hold that the quotation continues through verse 36
31 awHe who comes from above axis above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and ayspeaks in an earthly way. azHe who comes from heaven bais above all. 32 bbHe bears witness to what he has seen and heard, bcyet no one receives his testimony. 33Whoever receives his testimony bdsets his seal to this, bethat God is true. 34For he whom bfGod has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit bgwithout measure. 35 bhThe Father loves the Son and bihas given all things into his hand. 36 bjWhoever believes in the Son has eternal life; bkwhoever does not obey the Son shall not blsee life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
John 5:33-36
33 bmYou sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth. 34Not that bnthe testimony that I receive is from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved. 35He was a burning and boshining lamp, and bpyou were willing to rejoice for a while in his light. 36But bqthe testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For brthe works that the Father has given me bsto accomplish, the very works that I am doing, btbear witness about me that buthe Father has sent me.
