Matthew 5:10-12

10 aBlessed are those who are persecuted for righteousnesssake, for btheirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 cBlessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely don my account. 12 eRejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for fso they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Matthew 10:12-18

12As you enter the house, ggreet it. 13And if the house is hworthy, let iyour peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let jyour peace return to you. 14And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, kshake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town. 15Truly, I say to you, lit will be more bearable on the day of judgment for mthe land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.

Persecution Will Come

16 nBehold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be owise as serpents and pinnocent as doves. 17Beware of men, for qthey will deliver you over to courts and flog you rin their synagogues, 18 sand you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, tto bear witness before them and the Gentiles.

Matthew 10:22-25

22 uand you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. vBut the one who endures to the end will be saved. 23When they wpersecute you in one town, xflee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel ybefore the Son of Man comes.

24 z“A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant
Greek bondservant; also verse 25
above his master.
25It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. abIf they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign
Greek lacks  will they malign
those of his household.

Matthew 21:35-39

35 adAnd the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and aestoned another. 36 afAgain he sent other servants, more than the first. And they did the same to them. 37Finally he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, agThis is the heir. Come, ahlet us kill him and have his inheritance.’ 39And they took him and aithrew him out of the vineyard and killed him.

Matthew 23:34-37

34 ajTherefore akI send you alprophets and wise men and amscribes, ansome of whom you will kill and crucify, and aosome you will apflog in your synagogues and aqpersecute from town to town, 35so that on you may come all arthe righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous asAbel to the blood of atZechariah the son of Barachiah,
Some manuscripts omit  the son of Barachiah
whom you murdered between avthe sanctuary and awthe altar.
36Truly, I say to you, axall these things will come upon this generation.

Lament over Jerusalem

37 ay“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that azkills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have bagathered bbyour children together bcas a hen gathers her brood bdunder her wings, and beyou were not willing!

John 15:19-20

19 bfIf you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because bgyou are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20Remember the word that I said to you: bh‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, bithey will also persecute you. bjIf they kept my word, they will also keep yours.

John 16:2-3

2 bkThey will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, blthe hour is coming when bmwhoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. 3And they will do these things bnbecause they have not known the Father, nor me.
