Matthew 5:17-20

Christ Came to Fulfill the Law

17 a“Do not think that I have come to abolish bthe Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but cto fulfill them. 18For truly, I say to you, duntil heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 eTherefore whoever relaxes fone of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least gin the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great hin the kingdom of heaven. 20For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds ithat of the scribes and Pharisees, you jwill never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Romans 3:31

31Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.

Romans 7:7-13

The Law and Sin

7What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, kI would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if lthe law had not said, “You shall not covet.” 8But sin, mseizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. nFor apart from the law, sin lies dead. 9I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died. 10The very commandment othat promised life proved to be death to me. 11For sin, pseizing an opportunity through the commandment, qdeceived me and through it killed me. 12So rthe law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.

13Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure.
