Matthew 6:5-16

The Lord’s Prayer

5And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love ato stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. bTruly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6But when you pray, cgo into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. dAnd your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

7And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as ethe Gentiles do, for fthey think that they will be heard gfor their many words. 8Do not be like them, hfor your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 iPray then like this:

jOur Father in heaven,
khallowed be lyour name.
Or Let your name be kept holy, or Let your name be treated with reverence

10 nYour kingdom come,
oyour will be done,
Or Let your kingdom come, let your will be done

qon earth as it is in heaven.
11 rGive us sthis day our daily bread,
Or  our bread for tomorrow

12and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13And ulead us not into temptation,
but vdeliver us from wevil.
Or the evil one; some manuscripts add For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen

14 yFor if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 zbut if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Fasting

16And aawhen you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. abTruly, I say to you, they have received their reward.
