Nehemiah 1:2-3

2that aHanani, one of my brothers, came with certain men from Judah. And I asked them concerning the Jews who escaped, who had survived the exile, and concerning Jerusalem. 3And they said to me, “The remnant there in the province who had survived the exile is in great trouble and bshame. cThe wall of Jerusalem is broken down, dand its gates are destroyed by fire.”

Isaiah 1:7-8

7 eYour country lies desolate;
your cities are burned with fire;
in your very presence
foreigners devour your land;
it is desolate, as overthrown by foreigners.
8And fthe daughter of Zion is left
like a gbooth in a vineyard,
like a lodge in a cucumber field,
like a besieged city.

Isaiah 37:3-4

3They said to him, “Thus says Hezekiah, ‘This day is a hday of distress, of rebuke, and of disgrace; ichildren have come to the point of birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth. 4 jIt may be that the Lord your God will hear the words of the Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to mock the living God, and will rebuke the words that the Lord your God has heard; therefore lift up your prayer for kthe remnant that is left.’”

Zephaniah 3:12

12But I will leave in your midst
a people lhumble and lowly.
mThey shall seek refuge in the name of the Lord,

Zechariah 13:8-9

8In the whole land, declares the Lord,
two thirds shall be cut off and perish,
nand one third shall be left alive.
9And oI will put this third into the fire,
and refine them as one refines silver,
and test them as gold is tested.
pThey will call upon my name,
and qI will answer them.
rI will say, ‘They are my people’;
and they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’”

Matthew 24:21-22

21For then there will be sgreat tribulation, tsuch as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. 22And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for uthe sake of the elect those days will be cut short.
