Judgment on Ammon

1 rConcerning the Ammonites.

Thus says the Lord:

“Has Israel no sons?
Has he no heir?
Why then has sMilcom tdispossessed Gad,
and his people settled in its cities?
2Therefore, behold, the days are coming,
declares the Lord,
when I will cause uthe battle cry to be heard
against vRabbah of the Ammonites;
it shall become a desolate wmound,
and its villages shall be burned with fire;
then Israel shall dispossess those who dispossessed him,
says the Lord.
3 Wail, O xHeshbon, for Ai is laid waste!
Cry out, O daughters of yRabbah!
zPut on sackcloth,
lament, and run to and fro among the hedges!
For aaMilcom shall go into exile,
abwith his priests and his officials.
4Why do you boast of your valleys,
Hebrew  boast of your valleys, your valley flows

adO faithless daughter,
aewho trusted in her treasures, saying,
Who will come against me?’
5Behold, afI will bring terror upon you,
declares the Lord God of hosts,
from all who are around you,
and you shall be driven out, every man straight before him,
with none to gather the fugitives.
6“But agafterward I will restore the fortunes of the Ammonites, declares the Lord.”

Amos 1:13-15

13Thus says the Lord:

ah“For three transgressions of the aiAmmonites,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because ajthey have ripped open pregnant women in akGilead,
that they might enlarge their border.
14So I will kindle a fire in the wall of alRabbah,
amand it shall devour her strongholds,
with shouting on the day of battle,
anwith a tempest in the day of the whirlwind;
15and aotheir king shall go into exile,
he and his princes
Or officials
together,”

says the Lord.
