Nehemiah 5:7-11

7I took counsel with myself, and I brought charges against the nobles and the officials. I said to them, a“You are exacting interest, each from his brother.” And I held a great assembly against them 8and said to them, “We, as far as we are able, bhave bought back our Jewish brothers who have been sold to the nations, but you even sell your brothers that they may be sold to us!” They were silent and could not find a word to say. 9So I said, “The thing that you are doing is not good. Ought you not to walk cin the fear of our God dto prevent the taunts of the nations our enemies? 10Moreover, I and my brothers and my servants are lending them money and grain. Let us abandon this exacting of interest. 11Return to them this very day their fields, their vineyards, their olive orchards, and their houses, and the percentage of money, grain, wine, and oil that you have been exacting from them.”

Isaiah 58:3

3 eWhy have we fasted, and you see it not?
Why have we humbled ourselves, and you take no knowledge of it?’
Behold, in the day of your fast you seek your own pleasure,
Or pursue your own business

gand oppress all your workers.

Amos 8:4-6

4 Hear this, hyou who trample on the needy

An  ephah was about 3/5 bushel or 22 liters; a  shekel was about 2/5 ounce or 11 grams

Matthew 18:25-35

25 pAnd since he could not pay, his master ordered him qto be sold, with his wife and rchildren and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26So the servant
Greek bondservant; also verses 27, 28, 29, 32, 33
tfell on his knees, imploring him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.’
27And out of pity for him, the master of that servant released him and uforgave him the debt. 28But when that same servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred vdenarii,
A  denarius was a day’s wage for a laborer
and seizing him, he began to choke him, saying, ‘Pay what you owe.’
29So his fellow servant fell down and pleaded with him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you.’ 30He refused and went and put him in prison until he should pay the debt. 31When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their master all that had taken place. 32Then his master summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. 33 xAnd should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’ 34 yAnd in anger his master delivered him to the jailers,
Greek torturers
aauntil he should pay all his debt.
35 abSo also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother acfrom your heart.”

Luke 6:34-38

34And adif you aelend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. 35But aflove your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and agyou will be sons of ahthe Most High, for aihe is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. 36 ajBe merciful, even as akyour Father is merciful.
