Nehemiah 5:7-13

7I took counsel with myself, and I brought charges against the nobles and the officials. I said to them, a“You are exacting interest, each from his brother.” And I held a great assembly against them 8and said to them, “We, as far as we are able, bhave bought back our Jewish brothers who have been sold to the nations, but you even sell your brothers that they may be sold to us!” They were silent and could not find a word to say. 9So I said, “The thing that you are doing is not good. Ought you not to walk cin the fear of our God dto prevent the taunts of the nations our enemies? 10Moreover, I and my brothers and my servants are lending them money and grain. Let us abandon this exacting of interest. 11Return to them this very day their fields, their vineyards, their olive orchards, and their houses, and the percentage of money, grain, wine, and oil that you have been exacting from them.” 12Then they said, “We will restore these and erequire nothing from them. We will do as you say.” And I called the priests and fmade them swear gto do as they had promised. 13 hI also shook out the fold
Hebrew bosom
of my garment and said, “So may God shake out every man from his house and from his labor who does not keep this promise. So may he be shaken out and emptied.” jAnd all the assembly saidAmen” and praised the Lord. And the people did as they had promised.

13 If I have rejected the cause of my manservant or my maidservant,
when they brought a complaint against me,
14what then shall I do when God rises up?
When he kmakes inquiry, what shall I answer him?
15Did lnot he who made me in the womb make him?
And did not one fashion us in the womb?
16 If I have mwithheld anything that the poor desired,
or have ncaused the eyes of the widow to fail,
17or have eaten my morsel alone,
and the fatherless has not eaten of it
18(for from my youth the fatherless
Hebrew he
grew up with me as with a father,
and from my mother’s womb I guided the widow

),
19if I have seen anyone qperish for rlack of clothing,
or the needy without scovering,
20if his body has not tblessed me,
Hebrew  if his loins have not blessed me

and if he was not warmed with the fleece of my sheep,
21if I have raised my hand against vthe fatherless,
because I saw my help in wthe gate,
22then let my shoulder blade fall from my shoulder,
and let my arm be broken from its socket.
23For I was xin terror of calamity from God,
and I could not have faced his ymajesty.

25if I have acrejoiced because my wealth was abundant
or because admy hand had found much,
