Isaiah 60

The Future Glory of Israel

1 gArise, shine, for your light has come,
and hthe glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
2For behold, darkness shall cover the earth,
and thick darkness the peoples;
but the Lord will arise upon you,
and his glory will be seen upon you.
3 iAnd nations shall come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your rising.
4 jLift up your eyes all around, and see;
they all gather together, they come to you;
kyour sons shall come from afar,
and your daughters shall be carried on the hip.
5Then you shall see and lbe radiant;
your heart shall thrill and exult,
Hebrew  your heart shall tremble and grow wide

because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you,
nthe wealth of the nations shall come to you.
6A multitude of camels shall cover you,
the young camels of oMidian and pEphah;
all those from qSheba shall come.
rThey shall bring gold and frankincense,
and shall bring good news, the praises of the Lord.
7All the flocks of sKedar shall be gathered to you;
the rams of tNebaioth shall minister to you;
uthey shall come up with acceptance on my altar,
vand I will beautify my beautiful house.
8 Who are these that fly like a cloud,
and wlike doves to their windows?
9For xthe coastlands shall hope for me,
ythe ships of Tarshish first,
zto bring your children from afar,
their silver and gold with them,
for the name of the Lord your God,
and for the Holy One of Israel,
because aahe has made you beautiful.
10 abForeigners shall build up your walls,
and actheir kings shall minister to you;
for in my wrath I struck you,
but in my favor I have had mercy on you.
11 adYour gates shall be open continually;
day and night they shall not be shut,
aethat people may bring to you the wealth of the nations,
with their kings led in procession.
12 afFor the nation and kingdom
that will not serve you shall perish;
those nations shall be utterly laid waste.
13 agThe glory of Lebanon shall come to you,
the cypress, the plane, and ahthe pine,
to beautify the place of my sanctuary,
and I will make the place of my feet glorious.
14 aiThe sons of those who afflicted you
shall come bending low to you,
ajand all who despised you
shall bow down at your feet;
akthey shall call you the City of the Lord,
the Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
15 alWhereas you have been forsaken and hated,
with no one passing through,
amI will make you majestic forever,
a joy from age to age.
16 anYou shall suck the milk of nations;
you shall nurse at the breast of kings;
and you shall know that aoI, the Lord, am your Savior
and your Redeemer, apthe Mighty One of Jacob.
17 Instead of bronze I will bring gold,
and instead of iron I will bring silver;
instead of wood, bronze,
instead of stones, iron.
I will make your overseers peace
aqand your taskmasters righteousness.
18 arViolence shall no more be heard in your land,
devastation or destruction within your borders;
asyou shall call your walls Salvation,
and your gates Praise.
19 atThe sun shall be no more
your light by day,
nor for brightness shall the moon
give you light;

but the Lord will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory.
Or  your beauty

20Your sun shall no more go down,
nor your moon withdraw itself;
for the Lord will be your everlasting light,
and awyour days of mourning shall be ended.
21 axYour people shall all be righteous;
aythey shall possess the land forever,
azthe branch of my planting, the work of my hands,
that I might be glorified.
Or  that I might display my beauty

22 bbThe least one shall become a clan,
and the smallest one a mighty nation;
bcI am the Lord;
in its time I will hasten it.

Isaiah 61:1-3

The Year of the Lord’s Favor

1 bdThe Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has beanointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
Or afflicted

he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and bgthe opening of the prison to those who are bound;
Or  the opening [of the eyes] to those who are blind; Septuagint  and recovery of sight to the blind

2 bito proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,
bjand the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn;
3to grant to those who mourn in Zion
bkto give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,
blthe oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
bmthat they may be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord, bnthat he may be glorified.
Or  that he may display his beauty

Isaiah 62:11-12

11Behold, the Lord has proclaimed
to the end of the earth:
bpSay to the daughter of Zion,

The Redeemed of the Lord;
bsand you shall be called Sought Out,
A City Not Forsaken.

Isaiah 65:13-14

13 Therefore thus says the Lord God:
Behold, btmy servants shall eat,
but you shall be hungry;
behold, my servants shall drink,
but you shall be thirsty;
behold, my servants shall rejoice,
but you shall be put to shame;
14behold, bumy servants shall sing for gladness of heart,
but you shall cry out for pain of heart
and shall wail for breaking of spirit.

Isaiah 66:10-14

10 bvRejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her,
all you who love her;
rejoice with her in joy,
all you who mourn over her;
11that you may nurse and be satisfied
from her consoling breast;
that you may drink deeply with delight
from her glorious abundance.”
Or breast

12 For thus says the Lord:
bxBehold, I will extend peace to her like a river,
and the glory of the nations like an overflowing stream;
and byyou shall nurse, you shall be carried upon her hip,
and bounced upon her knees.
13As one whom his mother comforts,
so bzI will comfort you;
you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
14You shall see, and your heart shall rejoice;
cayour bones shall flourish like the grass;
and cbthe hand of the Lord shall be known to his servants,
and he shall show his indignation against his enemies.
