Numbers 14:13-16

Moses Intercedes for the People

13But aMoses said to the Lord, “Then the Egyptians will hear of it, for you brought up this people in your might from among them, 14and they will tell the inhabitants of this land. bThey have heard that you, O Lord, are in the midst of this people. For you, O Lord, are seen face to face, and cyour cloud stands over them and you go before them, in a pillar of cloud by day and in a pillar of fire by night. 15Now if you kill this people as one man, then the nations who have heard your fame will say, 16‘It is because the Lord dwas not able to bring this people into the land that he swore to give to them that he has killed them in the wilderness.’

Deuteronomy 9:28

28lest the land from which you brought us say, eBecause the Lord was not able to bring them into the land that he promised them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to put them to death in the wilderness.”

26 fI would have said, “I will cut them to pieces;
gI will wipe them from human memory,”
27had I not feared provocation by the enemy,
lest their adversaries should misunderstand,
lest they should say, h“Our hand is triumphant,
it was not the Lord who did all this.”’

Joshua 7:9

9For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it and will surround us and icut off our name from the earth. And what will you do for your great name?”

Psalms 74:18

18 jRemember this, O Lord, how the enemy scoffs,
and ka foolish people reviles your name.
