Numbers 14:22-30

22 anone of the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have put me to the test these bten times and have not obeyed my voice, 23 cshall see the land that I swore to give to their fathers. And none of those who despised me shall see it. 24But my servant dCaleb, because he has a different spirit and has efollowed me fully, I will bring into the land into which he went, and his descendants shall possess it. 25 fNow, since the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwell in the valleys, gturn tomorrow and set out for the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.”

26And the Lord spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, 27How long shall hthis wicked congregation grumble against me? iI have heard the grumblings of the people of Israel, which they grumble against me. 28Say to them, j‘As I live, declares the Lord, kwhat you have said in my hearing I will do to you: 29 lyour dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness, and mof all your number, listed in the census nfrom twenty years old and upward, who have grumbled against me, 30not one shall come into the land where I oswore that I would make you dwell, pexcept Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

14And the time from our leaving yKadesh-barnea until we crossed zthe brook Zered was thirty-eight years, aauntil the entire generation, that is, the men of war, had perished from the camp, as the Lord had sworn to them. 15For indeed the hand of the Lord was against them, to destroy them from the camp, until they had perished.

Hebrews 3:8-11

8do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,
on the day of testing in the wilderness,
9where your fathers put me to the test
and saw my works for ahforty years.
10Therefore I was provoked with that generation,
and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart;
they have not known my ways.’
11 aiAs I swore in my wrath,
‘They shall not enter my rest.’”
