Numbers 32:13-15

13And the Lord’s anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them ewander in the wilderness forty years, until fall the generation that had done evil in the sight of the Lord was gone. 14And behold, you have risen in your fathersplace, a brood of sinful men, to increase still more the fierce anger of the Lord against Israel! 15For if you gturn away from following him, he will again abandon them in the wilderness, and you will destroy all this people.”

Deuteronomy 4:3-6

3Your eyes have seen what the Lord did hat Baal-peor, for the Lord your God destroyed from among you all the men who followed the Baal of Peor. 4But you who held fast to the Lord your God are all alive today. 5See, I have taught you statutes and rules, as the Lord my God commanded me, that you should do them in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. 6 iKeep them and do them, for jthat will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’

Psalms 78:6-8

6that kthe next generation might know them,
the children yet unborn,

7so that they should set their hope in God
and not forget lthe works of God,
but mkeep his commandments;
8and that they should not be nlike their fathers,
oa stubborn and rebellious generation,
a generation pwhose heart was not steadfast,
whose spirit was not faithful to God.
