Numbers 14:33-34

33 And your children ^ashall be shepherds in the wilderness ^bforty years and shall ^csuffer for your faithlessness, until the last of your dead bodies lies in the wilderness. 34 ^dAccording to the number of the days in which you spied out the land, ^eforty days, a year for each day, you shall bear your iniquity forty years, and you shall know my displeasure.’

Joshua 5:6

6 For the people of Israel walked ^fforty years in the wilderness, until all the nation, the men of war who came out of Egypt, perished, because they did not obey the voice of the Lord; the Lord ^gswore to them that he would not let them see the land that the Lord had sworn to their fathers to give to us, ^ha land flowing with milk and honey.

Nehemiah 9:12-21

12 By ⁱa pillar of cloud you led them in the day, and by a pillar of fire in the night to light for them the way in which they should go. 13 ^jYou came down on Mount Sinai ^kand spoke with them from heaven and gave them ^lright rules and true laws, good statutes and commandments, 14 ^mand you made known to them your holy Sabbath and commanded them commandments and statutes and a law by Moses your servant. 15 ⁿYou gave them bread from heaven for their hunger and ^obrought water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and you ^ptold them to go in to possess the land that you had sworn to give them.

16 “But they and our fathers ^qacted presumptuously and stiffened their neck and did not obey your commandments. 17 They refused to obey ^rand were not mindful of the wonders that you performed among them, but they stiffened their neck and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt. But you are a God ready to forgive, ^sgracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and did not forsake them. 18 Even ^twhen they had made for themselves a golden ^{▼▼Hebrew metal} calf and said, ‘This is your God who brought you up out of Egypt,’ ^vand had committed great blasphemies, 19 you ^win your great mercies did not forsake them in the wilderness. ^xThe pillar of cloud to lead them in the way did not depart from them by day, ^ynor the pillar of fire by night to light for them the way by which they should go. 20 ^zYou gave your good Spirit to instruct them ^aaand did not withhold your manna from their mouth and gave them water for their thirst. 21 ^abForty years you sustained them in the wilderness, and they lacked nothing. Their clothes did not wear out and their feet did not swell.

Psalms 95:9-10

9 when your fathers put me to the ^actest
and put me to the proof, though they had seen my ^adwork.
10 ^aeFor forty years I loathed that generation
and said, “They are a people who go astray in their heart,
and they have not known ^afmy ways.”

Acts 13:17-18

Hebrews 3:17

17 And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, ^aowhose bodies fell in the wilderness?
