42 ^aDo not go up, ^bfor the Lord is not among you, lest you be struck down before your enemies.

Joshua 7:12-13

12 ^cTherefore the people of Israel cannot stand before their enemies. They ^dturn their backs before their enemies, because they have become ^edevoted for destruction. ^{▼▼That is, set apart ( devoted) as an offering to the Lord (for destruction)} I will be with you no more, unless you destroy ^gthe devoted things from among you. 13 Get up! Consecrate the people and say, ^h‘Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow; for thus says the Lord, God of Israel, “There are devoted things in your midst, O Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted things from among you.”

Judges 2:14

14 ⁱSo the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he ^jgave them over to plunderers, who plundered them. ^kAnd he sold them into the hand of their surrounding enemies, ^lso that they could no longer withstand their enemies.
