Numbers 16:30

30But if the Lord creates something new, and athe ground opens its mouth and swallows them up with all that belongs to them, and they bgo down alive into Sheol, then you shall know that these men have despised the Lord.”

Numbers 16:33

33So they and all that belonged to them went down alive into Sheol, and the earth closed over them, and cthey perished from the midst of the assembly.

Psalms 28:1

The Lord Is My Strength and My Shield

Of David.

1 To you, O Lord, I call;
dmy rock, be not deaf to me,
lest, if you ebe silent to me,
I become like those who fgo down to the pit.

Isaiah 14:11-19

11Your pomp is brought down to Sheol,
the sound of your harps;
maggots are laid as a bed beneath you,
and worms are your covers.
12 How gyou are fallen from heaven,
O Day Star, hson of Dawn!
How you are cut down to the ground,
you who laid the nations low!
13You said in your heart,
i‘I will ascend to heaven;
above the stars of God
jI will set my throne on high;
I will sit on the mount of assembly
in the far reaches of the north;
Or  in the remote parts of Zaphon

14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High.’
15 lBut you are brought down to Sheol,
to the far reaches of the pit.
16Those who see you will stare at you
and ponder over you:
‘Is this mthe man who made the earth tremble,
who shook kingdoms,
17who made the world like a desert
and overthrew its cities,
nwho did not let his prisoners go home?’
18All the kings of the nations lie in glory,
each in his own tomb;

19but you are cast out, away from your grave,
like a loathed branch,
pclothed with the slain, those pierced by the sword,
who go down to the stones of the pit,
like a dead body trampled underfoot.

Ezekiel 32:18-32

18 qSon of man, rwail over sthe multitude of Egypt, and tsend them down, her and the daughters of majestic nations, uto the world below, to those who have gone down to the pit:

19 vWhom do you surpass in beauty?
Go down and wbe laid to rest with the uncircumcised.’
20They shall fall amid those xwho are slain by the sword. Egypt
Hebrew She
is delivered to the sword; drag her away, and zall her multitudes.
21The mighty chiefs aashall speak of them, abwith their helpers, out of the midst of Sheol: ‘They have come down, they lie still, acthe uncircumcised, adslain by the sword.’

22 aeAssyria is there, and all her company, afits graves all around it, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, 23whose graves are set in agthe uttermost parts of the pit; and her company is all around her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, ahwho spread terror aiin the land of the living.

24 ajElam is akthere, and all her multitude around her grave; all of them alslain, fallen by the sword, who went down uncircumcised into amthe world below, who spread their terror in the land of the living; and anthey bear their shame aowith those who go down to the pit. 25 apThey have made her a bed among the slain with all her multitude, aqher graves all around it, all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword; for terror of them was spread in the land of the living, and they bear their shame with those who go down to the pit; they are placed among the slain.

26 arMeshech-Tubal is asthere, and all her multitude, ather graves all around it, all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword; for they spread their terror in the land of the living. 27And authey do not lie with the mighty, the fallen from among the uncircumcised, who went down to Sheol with their weapons of war, whose swords were laid under their heads, and whose iniquities are upon their bones; for the terror of the mighty men was in the land of the living. 28But as for you, you shall be broken avand lie among the uncircumcised, with those who are slain by the sword.

29 awEdom is axthere, her kings and all her princes, who for all their might are laid with those who are killed by the sword; they lie with the uncircumcised, with those who go down to the pit.

30“The princes ayof the north are there, all of them, and all the azSidonians, who have gone down in shame with the slain, bafor all the terror that they caused by their might; they lie uncircumcised with those who are slain by the sword, and bbbear their shame with those who go down to the pit.

31“When Pharaoh sees them, he bcwill be comforted for bdall his multitude, Pharaoh and all his army, slain by the sword, declares the Lord God. 32 beFor I spread terror bfin the land of the living; and he shall be laid to rest among bgthe uncircumcised, with those who are slain by the sword, Pharaoh and all his multitude, declares the Lord God.”

Ezekiel 34

Prophecy Against the Shepherds of Israel

1The word of the Lord came to me: 2 bhSon of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy, and say to them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord God: biAh, shepherds of Israel bjwho have been feeding yourselves! bkShould not shepherds feed the sheep? 3 blYou eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, bmyou slaughter the fat ones, but you do not feed the sheep. 4 bnThe weak you have not strengthened, the sick you have not healed, bothe injured you have not bound up, bpthe strayed you have not brought back, bqthe lost you have not sought, and with force and brharshness you have ruled them. 5 bsSo they were scattered, because there was no shepherd, and btthey became food for all the wild beasts. My sheep were scattered; 6they wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. My sheep were scattered over all the face of the earth, buwith none to search or seek for them.

7Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: 8 bvAs I live, declares the Lord God, surely because bwmy sheep have become a prey, and my sheep have become food for all the wild beasts, since there was no shepherd, and because my shepherds have not searched for my sheep, but the shepherds have fed themselves, and have not fed my sheep, 9therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: 10Thus says the Lord God, bxBehold, I am against the shepherds, and byI will require my sheep at their hand and bzput a stop to their feeding the sheep. caNo longer shall the shepherds feed themselves. cbI will rescue my sheep from their mouths, that they may not be food for them.

The Lord God Will Seek Them Out

11For thus says the Lord God: ccBehold, I, I cdmyself will search for my sheep and will seek them out. 12As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his sheep that have been scattered, so will I seek out my sheep, and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on cea day of clouds and cfthick darkness. 13And I will bring them out from the peoples cgand gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land. And I will feed them on chthe mountains of Israel, by the ravines, and in all the inhabited places of the country. 14 ciI will feed them with good pasture, and on the mountain heights of Israel shall be their grazing land. cjThere they shall lie down in good grazing land, and on rich pasture they shall feed on the mountains of Israel. 15 ckI myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, cland I myself will make them lie down, declares the Lord God. 16 cmI will seek the lost, cnand I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, and cothe fat and the strong I will destroy.
Septuagint, Syriac, Vulgate  I will watch over
I will feed them in justice.

17“As for you, my flock, thus says the Lord God: cqBehold, I judge between sheep and sheep, between rams and crmale goats. 18Is it not enough for you to feed on the good pasture, that you must tread down with your feet the rest of your pasture; and to drink of csclear water, that you must muddy the rest of the water with your feet? 19And must my sheep eat what you have trodden with your feet, and drink what you have muddied with your feet?

20Therefore, thus says the Lord God to them: Behold, I, I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. 21Because you push with side and shoulder, and ctthrust at all the cuweak with your horns, till you have scattered them abroad, 22I will rescue
Or save
my flock; cwthey shall no longer be a prey. And I will judge between sheep and sheep.
23And cxI will set up over them one shepherd, cymy servant David, and he shall feed them: he shall feed them and be their shepherd. 24And czI, the Lord, will be their God, and my servant David shall be prince among them. daI am the Lord; I have spoken.

The Lord’s Covenant of Peace

25 db“I will make with them a covenant of peace and dcbanish wild beasts from the land, ddso that they may dwell securely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods. 26And I will make them and the places all around my hill dea blessing, and dfI will send down the showers in their season; they shall be dgshowers of blessing. 27 dhAnd the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase, diand they shall be secure in their land. And djthey shall know that I am the Lord, when dkI break the bars of their yoke, and dldeliver them from the hand of those who enslaved them. 28 dmThey shall no more be a prey to the nations, dnnor shall the beasts of the land devour them. doThey shall dwell securely, and none shall make them afraid. 29And I will provide for them dprenowned plantations so that dqthey shall no more be consumed with hunger in the land, and no longer drsuffer the reproach of the nations. 30And they shall know that dsI am the Lord their God with them, and that they, the house of Israel, are my people, declares the Lord God. 31And you are my sheep, dthuman sheep of my pasture, and I am your God, declares the Lord God.”

Luke 10:15

15And you, Capernaum, duwill you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to dvHades.
