Numbers 18:1-6

Duties of Priests and Levites

1So the Lord said to Aaron, “You and your sons and your father’s house with you shall abear iniquity connected with the sanctuary, band you and your sons with you shall bear iniquity connected with your priesthood. 2And with you bring your brothers also, the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, that they may cjoin you and dminister to you while you and your sons with you are before the tent of the testimony. 3They shall keep guard over you and eover the whole tent, fbut shall not come near to the vessels of the sanctuary or to the altar glest they, and you, die. 4They shall join you and keep guard over the tent of meeting for all the service of the tent, hand no outsider shall come near you. 5And you shall ikeep guard over the sanctuary and over the altar, jthat there may never again be wrath on the people of Israel. 6 kAnd behold, I have taken your brothers the Levites from among the people of Israel. lThey are a gift to you, given to the Lord, to do the service of the tent of meeting.

1 Chronicles 16:37-42

Worship Before the Ark

37So David left Asaph and his brothers there mbefore the ark of the covenant of the Lord to minister regularly before the ark nas each day required, 38and also oObed-edom and his
Hebrew their
sixty-eight brothers, while qObed-edom, the son of Jeduthun, and rHosah were to be gatekeepers.
39And he left sZadok the priest and his brothers the priests before the tabernacle of the Lord tin the high place that was at Gibeon 40to offer burnt offerings to the Lord uon the altar of burnt offering vregularly morning and evening, to do all that is written in the Law of the Lord that he commanded Israel. 41With them were wHeman and Jeduthun xand the rest of those chosen and yexpressly named to give thanks to the Lord, zfor his steadfast love endures forever. 42Heman and Jeduthun had trumpets and cymbals for the music and instruments aafor sacred song. The sons of Jeduthun were appointed to the gate.

1 Chronicles 23:27-32

27For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered from abtwenty years old and upward. 28For their duty was to assist the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the Lord, having the care of the courts and the chambers, the cleansing of all that is holy, and any work for the service of the house of God. 29Their duty was also to assist with the acshowbread, the adflour for the grain offering, the wafers of unleavened bread, the aebaked offering, the afoffering mixed with oil, and all agmeasures of quantity or size. 30And they were to stand every morning, thanking and praising the Lord, and likewise at evening, 31and whenever burnt offerings were offered to the Lord ahon Sabbaths, ainew moons, and feast days, ajaccording to the number required of them, regularly before the Lord. 32Thus akthey were to keep charge of the tent of meeting and the sanctuary, and to attend the sons of Aaron, their brothers, for the alservice of the house of the Lord.
