Numbers 24:17

17 aI see him, but not now;
I behold him, but not near:
ba star shall come out of Jacob,
and ca scepter shall rise out of Israel;
it shall dcrush the forehead
Hebrew corners [of the head]
of Moab
and break down all the sons of Sheth.

Psalms 83:4-8

4They say, “Come, flet us wipe them out as a nation;
let the name of Israel be remembered no more!”
5For they conspire with one accord;
against you they make a covenant
6the tents of gEdom and hthe Ishmaelites,
iMoab and jthe Hagrites,
7 kGebal and lAmmon and mAmalek,
nPhilistia with the inhabitants of oTyre;
8 pAsshur also has joined them;
they are the strong arm of qthe children of Lot.  Selah

Isaiah 15

An Oracle Concerning Moab

1An roracle concerning sMoab.

Because tAr of Moab is laid waste in a night,
Moab is undone;
because uKir of Moab is laid waste in a night,
Moab is undone.
2He has gone up to the temple,
Hebrew  the house
and to wDibon,
to the high places
Or temple, even Dibon to the high places
to weep;
over yNebo and over zMedeba
Moab aawails.
On every head is abbaldness;
every beard is shorn;
3in the streets they wear sackcloth;
on the housetops and in the squares
everyone wails and melts in tears.
4 acHeshbon and adElealeh cry out;
their voice is heard as far as aeJahaz;
therefore the armed men of Moab cry aloud;
his soul trembles.
5My heart cries out for Moab;
her fugitives flee to Zoar,
to afEglath-shelishiyah.
For at the agascent of Luhith
they go up weeping;
on the road to ahHoronaim
they raise a cry of destruction;
6the waters of aiNimrim
are a desolation;
the grass is withered, the vegetation fails,
the greenery is no more.
7 ajTherefore the abundance they have gained
and what they have laid up
they carry away
over the Brook of the Willows.
8For a cry has gone
around the land of Moab;
her wailing reaches to Eglaim;
her wailing reaches to Beer-elim.
9For the waters of akDibon
Dead Sea Scroll, Vulgate (compare Syriac); Masoretic Text Dimon; twice in this verse
are full of blood;
for I will bring upon Dibon even more,
ama lion for those of Moab who escape,
for the remnant of the land.

Isaiah 16

1 anSend the lamb to the ruler of the land,
from aoSela, by way of the desert,
to the mount of the daughter of Zion.
2Like fleeing birds,
like a scattered nest,
so are the daughters of Moab
at apthe fords of the Arnon.
3 Give counsel;
grant justice;
aqmake your shade like night
at the height of noon;
shelter the outcasts;
do not reveal the fugitive;
4let arthe outcasts of Moab
sojourn among you;
be a shelter to them
Some Hebrew manuscripts, Septuagint, Syriac; Masoretic Text  let my outcasts sojourn among you; as for Moab, be a shelter to them

from the destroyer.
When the oppressor is no more,
and destruction has ceased,
and he who tramples underfoot has vanished from the land,
5 atthen a throne will be established in steadfast love,
and on it will sit in faithfulness
in the tent of David
one who judges and seeks justice
and is swift to do righteousness.”
6 auWe have heard of the pride of Moab
how proud he is!—
avof his arrogance, his pride, and his insolence;
in his idle boasting he is not right.
7Therefore let Moab wail for Moab,
awlet everyone wail.
Mourn, utterly stricken,
for the axraisin cakes of ayKir-hareseth.
8 For the fields of Heshbon languish,
and azthe vine of Sibmah;
the lords of the nations
have struck down its branches,
which reached to Jazer
and strayed to the desert;
its shoots spread abroad
and passed over the sea.
9Therefore baI weep with bbthe weeping of Jazer
for the vine of Sibmah;
I drench you with my tears,
O Heshbon and Elealeh;
for over bcyour summer fruit and your harvest
the shout has ceased.
10 bdAnd joy and gladness are taken away from bethe fruitful field,
and in the vineyards no bfsongs are sung,
no cheers are raised;
no bgtreader treads out wine bhin the presses;
I have put an end to the shouting.
11Therefore bimy inner parts moan like a lyre for Moab,
and my inmost self for Kir-hareseth.
12And when Moab presents himself, when bjhe wearies himself on bkthe high place, when he comes to his sanctuary to pray, he will not prevail.

13This is the word that the Lord spoke concerning Moab blin the past. 14But now the Lord has spoken, saying, “In three years, bmlike the years of a hired worker, the glory of Moab will be brought into contempt, in spite of all his great multitude, and those who remain will be bnvery few and feeble.”

Isaiah 25:10

10For the hand of the Lord will rest boon this mountain,
and bpMoab shall be trampled down in his place,
as straw is trampled down in a dunghill.
The Hebrew words for  dunghill and for the Moabite town  Madmen (Jeremiah 48:2) sound alike

Jeremiah 25:21

Jeremiah 48

Judgment on Moab

1 buConcerning Moab.

Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel:

Woe to bvNebo, for it is laid waste!
bwKiriathaim is put to shame, it is taken;
the fortress is put to shame bxand broken down;
2the renown of Moab is no more.
In byHeshbon they planned disaster against her:
Come, let us cut her off bzfrom being a nation!’
You also, O caMadmen, shall be brought to silence;
the sword shall pursue you.
3 “A voice! A cry from cbHoronaim,
Desolation and great destruction!’
4Moab is destroyed;
her little ones have made a cry.
5 ccFor at the ascent of Luhith
they go up weeping;
Hebrew weeping goes up with weeping

for ceat the descent of Horonaim
they have heard the distressed cry
Septuagint (compare Isaiah 15:5)  heard the cry
of destruction.
6Flee! Save yourselves!
You will be like cga juniper in the desert!
7For, chbecause you trusted in your works and your treasures,
you also shall be taken;
and ciChemosh cjshall go into exile
with ckhis priests and his officials.
8 clThe destroyer shall come upon every city,
and no city shall escape;
the valley shall perish,
and cmthe plain shall be destroyed,
as the Lord has spoken.
9 Give wings to Moab,
for she would fly away;
her cities shall become a desolation,
with no inhabitant in them.
10 cnCursed is he who does cothe work of the Lord with slackness, and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from bloodshed.

11 Moab has been at ease from his youth
and has cpsettled on his dregs;
he has not been emptied from vessel to vessel,
nor has he gone into exile;
so his taste remains in him,
and his scent is not changed.
12Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I shall send to him pourers who will pour him, and empty his vessels and break his
Septuagint, Aquila; Hebrew their
jars in pieces.
13Then crMoab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as csthe house of Israel was ashamed of ctBethel, their confidence.

14 How do you say, ‘We are heroes
and mighty men of war’?
15The destroyer of cuMoab and his cities has come up,
and the choicest of his young men have cvgone down to slaughter,
declares cwthe King, cxwhose name is the Lord of hosts.
16The calamity of Moab is near at hand,
and his affliction hastens swiftly.
17 cyGrieve for him, all you who are around him,
and all who know his name;
say, czHow the mighty scepter is broken,
the glorious staff.’
18 da“Come down from your glory,
and sit on the parched ground,
O inhabitant of dbDibon!
For the destroyer of Moab has come up against you;
he has destroyed your strongholds.
19 dcStand by the way ddand watch,
O inhabitant of deAroer!
Ask him who flees and her who escapes;
say, ‘What has happened?’
20Moab is put to shame, for it is broken;
dfwail and cry!
Tell it beside dgthe Arnon,
that dhMoab is laid waste.
21Judgment has come upon dithe tableland, upon Holon, and djJahzah, and Mephaath, 22and dkDibon, and dlNebo, and Beth-diblathaim, 23and dmKiriathaim, and Beth-gamul, and dnBeth-meon, 24and doKerioth, and dpBozrah, and all the cities of the land of Moab, far and near. 25 dqThe horn of Moab is cut off, and drhis arm is broken, declares the Lord.

26 ds“Make him drunk, dtbecause he magnified himself against the Lord, so that Moab shall duwallow in his vomit, dvand he too shall be held in derision. 27 dwWas not Israel a derision to you? dxWas he found among thieves, that whenever you spoke of him dyyou wagged your head?

28 dzLeave the cities, and dwell in the rock,
O inhabitants of Moab!
Be ealike the dove that nests
in the sides of the mouth of a gorge.
29 ebWe have heard of the pride of Moab
he is very proud
of his loftiness, his pride, and his arrogance,
and the haughtiness of his heart.
30I know his insolence, declares the Lord;
echis boasts are false,
his deeds are false.
31 edTherefore I wail for Moab;
I cry out for all Moab;
for the men of eeKir-hareseth I mourn.
32More than for efJazer I weep for you,
egO vine of ehSibmah!
eiYour branches passed over the sea,
reached to the Sea of ejJazer;
on your summer fruits and your grapes
the destroyer has fallen.
33 ekGladness and joy have been taken away
from the fruitful land of Moab;
I have made the wine cease from the winepresses;
no one treads them with shouts of joy;
the shouting is not the shout of joy.
34 elFrom the outcry at Heshbon even to Elealeh, as far as Jahaz they utter their voice, from Zoar to emHoronaim and Eglath-shelishiyah. For the waters of Nimrim also have become desolate. 35And I will bring to an end in Moab, declares the Lord, him who offers sacrifice in enthe high place and makes offerings to his god. 36Therefore my heart moans for Moab like a flute, and my heart moans like a flute for the men of eoKir-hareseth. epTherefore the riches they gained have perished.

37 eqFor every head is shaved and every beard cut off. erOn all the hands are gashes, and esaround the waist is sackcloth. 38On all the housetops of Moab and in the squares there is nothing but lamentation, for I have broken Moab like eta vessel for which no one cares, declares the Lord. 39How it is broken! How they wail! euHow Moab has turned his back in shame! So Moab evhas become a derision and a horror to all that are around him.”

40 For thus says the Lord:
Behold, ewone shall fly swiftly like an eagle
exand spread his wings against Moab;
41 eythe cities shall be taken
and the strongholds seized.
ezThe heart of the warriors of Moab shall be in that day
like the heart of faa woman in her birth pains;
42Moab shall be fbdestroyed and be no longer a people,
because fche magnified himself against the Lord.
43 fdTerror, pit, and snare
are before you, O inhabitant of Moab!

declares the Lord.
44He who flees from the terror
shall fall into the pit,
and he who climbs out of the pit
shall be caught in the snare.
feFor I will bring these things upon Moab,
the year of their punishment,

declares the Lord.
45 “In the shadow of Heshbon
fugitives stop without strength,
for fire came out from Heshbon,
flame from the house of Sihon;
it has destroyed ffthe forehead of Moab,
the crown of fgthe sons of tumult.
46 fhWoe to you, O Moab!
The people of fiChemosh are undone,
for your sons have been taken captive,
and your daughters into captivity.
47 fjYet I will restore the fortunes of Moab
in the latter days, declares the Lord.”
Thus far is the judgment on Moab.
