Numbers 25:1-6

Baal Worship at Peor

1While Israel lived in aShittim, bthe people began to whore with the daughters of Moab. 2 cThese invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods. 3So Israel yoked himself to Baal of Peor. And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel. 4And the Lord said to Moses, dTake all the chiefs of the people and ehang
Or impale
them in the sun before the Lord, gthat the fierce anger of the Lord may turn away from Israel.”
5And Moses said to hthe judges of Israel, iEach of you kill those of his men who have yoked themselves to Baal of Peor.”

6And behold, one of the people of Israel came and brought a Midianite woman to his family, in the sight of Moses and in the sight of the whole congregation of the people of Israel, while they were jweeping in the entrance of the tent of meeting.

Proverbs 13:20

20Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise,
but the companion of fools will suffer harm.

Hosea 4:11-14

11whoredom, wine, and new wine,
which ktake away the understanding.
12My people linquire of a piece of wood,
and their walking staff gives them oracles.
For ma spirit of whoredom has led them astray,
and they have left their God to play the whore.
13 nThey sacrifice on the tops of the mountains
and burn offerings on the hills,
ounder oak, poplar, and terebinth,
because their shade is good.
Therefore your daughters play the whore,
and your brides commit adultery.
14I will not punish your daughters when they play the whore,
nor your brides when they commit adultery;
for pthe men themselves go aside with prostitutes
and sacrifice with qcult prostitutes,
and a people rwithout understanding shall come to ruin.

1 Corinthians 10:6-8

6Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as sthey did. 7 tDo not be idolaters uas some of them were; as it is written, v“The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.” 8 wWe must not indulge in sexual immorality xas some of them did, and ytwenty-three thousand fell in a single day.

2 Peter 2:10-18

10and especially zthose who indulge
Greek  who go after the flesh
in the lust of defiling passion and abdespise authority.

Bold and willful, they do not tremble acas they blaspheme the glorious ones,
11 adwhereas angels, though greater in might and power, do not pronounce a blasphemous judgment against them before the Lord. 12 aeBut these, like irrational animals, afcreatures of instinct, born to be caught and destroyed, blaspheming about matters of which they are ignorant, will also be destroyed in their destruction, 13suffering wrong as agthe wage for their wrongdoing. They count it pleasure ahto revel in the daytime. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions,
Some manuscripts love feasts
while ajthey feast with you.
14They have eyes full of adultery, akinsatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts altrained in greed. amAccursed children! 15Forsaking the right way, anthey have gone astray. They have followed aothe way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved apgain from wrongdoing, 16but was rebuked for his own transgression; aqa speechless donkey spoke with human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness.

17 arThese are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm. asFor them the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved. 18For, atspeaking loud boasts of folly, they entice by sensual passions of the flesh those who are barely auescaping from those who live in error.

8Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and azblaspheme the glorious ones. 9But when bathe archangel bbMichael, contending with the devil, was disputing bcabout the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, bd“The Lord rebuke you.” 10 beBut these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively. 11Woe to them! For they walked in bfthe way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain bgto Balaam’s error and bhperished in Korah’s rebellion. 12These are hidden reefs
