Numbers 25:11-13

11 “Phinehas the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back my wrath from the people of Israel, in that he ^awas jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I did not consume the people of Israel in ^bmy jealousy. 12 Therefore say, ^c‘Behold, I give to him my covenant of peace, 13 and it shall be to him and to ^dhis descendants after him the covenant of ^ea perpetual priesthood, because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the people of Israel.’”

Deuteronomy 24:13

13 ^fYou shall restore to him the pledge as the sun sets, that he may sleep in his cloak and ^gbless you. And ^hit shall be righteousness for you before the Lord your God.

Mark 14:3-9

Jesus Anointed at Bethany

3 ⁱAnd while he was at ^jBethany in the house of Simon the leper, ^{▼▼Leprosy was a term for several skin diseases; see Leviticus 13} as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. 4 There were some who said to themselves indignantly, “Why was the ointment wasted like that? 5 For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii ^{▼▼A denarius was a day’s wage for a laborer} and ^mgiven to the poor.” And they ⁿscolded her. 6 But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 For ^oyou always have the poor with you, and whenever ^pyou want, you can do good for them. But ^qyou will not always have me. 8 ^rShe has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand ^sfor burial. 9 And truly, I say to you, wherever ^tthe gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told ^uin memory of her.”
