Numbers 25:6-11

6And behold, one of the people of Israel came and brought a Midianite woman to his family, in the sight of Moses and in the sight of the whole congregation of the people of Israel, while they were aweeping in the entrance of the tent of meeting. 7 bWhen Phinehas cthe son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose and left the congregation and took a spear in his hand 8and went after the man of Israel into the chamber and pierced both of them, the man of Israel and the woman through her belly. Thus the plague on the people of Israel was stopped. 9Nevertheless, dthose who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.

The Zeal of Phinehas

10And the Lord said to Moses, 11Phinehas the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back my wrath from the people of Israel, in that he ewas jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I did not consume the people of Israel in fmy jealousy.

Nehemiah 5:6-13

6I was very angry when I heard gtheir outcry and these words. 7I took counsel with myself, and I brought charges against the nobles and the officials. I said to them, h“You are exacting interest, each from his brother.” And I held a great assembly against them 8and said to them, “We, as far as we are able, ihave bought back our Jewish brothers who have been sold to the nations, but you even sell your brothers that they may be sold to us!” They were silent and could not find a word to say. 9So I said, “The thing that you are doing is not good. Ought you not to walk jin the fear of our God kto prevent the taunts of the nations our enemies? 10Moreover, I and my brothers and my servants are lending them money and grain. Let us abandon this exacting of interest. 11Return to them this very day their fields, their vineyards, their olive orchards, and their houses, and the percentage of money, grain, wine, and oil that you have been exacting from them.” 12Then they said, “We will restore these and lrequire nothing from them. We will do as you say.” And I called the priests and mmade them swear nto do as they had promised. 13 oI also shook out the fold
Hebrew bosom
of my garment and said, “So may God shake out every man from his house and from his labor who does not keep this promise. So may he be shaken out and emptied.” qAnd all the assembly saidAmen” and praised the Lord. And the people did as they had promised.

Nehemiah 13:15-20

15In those days I saw in Judah people treading winepresses ron the Sabbath, and bringing in heaps of grain and loading them on donkeys, and also wine, grapes, figs, and all kinds of loads, swhich they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day. And tI warned them on the day when they sold food. 16Tyrians also, who lived in the city, brought in fish and all kinds of goods and sold them on the Sabbath to the people of Judah, in Jerusalem itself! 17 uThen I confronted the nobles of Judah and said to them, “What is this evil thing that you are doing, vprofaning the Sabbath day? 18 wDid not your fathers act in this way, and did not our God bring all this disaster
The Hebrew word can mean evil, harm, or  disaster, depending on the context
on us and on this city? Now you are bringing more wrath on Israel by profaning the Sabbath.”

19As soon as it ybegan to grow dark at the gates of Jerusalem before the Sabbath, I commanded that the doors should be shut and gave orders that they should not be opened until after the Sabbath. And I stationed some of my servants at the gates, that no load might be brought in on the Sabbath day. 20Then the merchants and sellers of all kinds of wares lodged outside Jerusalem once or twice.

Nehemiah 13:23-25

23In those days also I saw the Jews zwho had married women aaof Ashdod, abAmmon, and acMoab. 24And half of their children spoke the language of Ashdod, and they could not speak the language of Judah, but only the language of each people. 25 adAnd I confronted them and cursed them and beat some of them and pulled out their hair. aeAnd I made them take an oath in the name of God, saying, “You shall not give your daughters to their sons, or take their daughters for your sons or for yourselves.

John 2:17

Sexual Immorality Defiles the Church

1It is actually reported that there is agsexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans, ahfor a man has his father’s wife. 2And aiyou are arrogant! Ought you ajnot rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you.

3For though akabsent in body, I am present in spirit; and as if present, I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did such a thing. 4When you are assembled alin the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus, 5you are amto deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so anthat his spirit may be saved aoin the day of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15

13For such men are aqfalse apostles, ardeceitful workmen, asdisguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as atan angel of light. 15So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as auservants of righteousness. avTheir end will correspond to their deeds.
