Numbers 26:64-65

64 aBut among these there was not one of those listed by Moses and Aaron the priest, who had listed the people of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai. 65For the Lord had said of them, b“They shall die in the wilderness.” Not one of them was left, cexcept Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

1 Corinthians 10:1-13

Warning Against Idolatry

1For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers,
Or  brothers and sisters
that our fathers were all under ethe cloud, and all fpassed through the sea,
2and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 3and gall ate the same hspiritual food, 4and iall drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ. 5Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for jthey were overthrown
Or  were laid low
in the wilderness.

6Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as lthey did. 7 mDo not be idolaters nas some of them were; as it is written, o“The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.” 8 pWe must not indulge in sexual immorality qas some of them did, and rtwenty-three thousand fell in a single day. 9We must not put Christ
Some manuscripts the Lord
to the test, tas some of them did and uwere destroyed by serpents,
10nor grumble, vas some of them did and wwere destroyed by xthe Destroyer. 11Now these things happened to them as an example, but ythey were written down for our instruction, zon whom the end of the ages has come. 12Therefore aalet anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. 13No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. abGod is faithful, and ache will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
