Numbers 27:16-23
16“Let the Lord, athe God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation 17who bshall go out before them and come in before them, who shall lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not be cas sheep that have no shepherd.” 18So the Lord said to Moses, “Take dJoshua the son of Nun, a man ein whom is the Spirit, and flay your hand on him. 19Make him stand before Eleazar the priest and all the congregation, and you shall gcommission him in their sight. 20You shall invest him with some of your authority, hthat all the congregation of the people of Israel may obey. 21And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him iby the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation.” 22And Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua and made him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation, 23and he laid his hands on him and jcommissioned him as the Lord directed through Moses.Deuteronomy 34:9
9And Joshua the son of Nun was full of kthe spirit of wisdom, for lMoses had laid his hands on him. So mthe people of Israel obeyed him and did as the Lord had commanded Moses.2 Kings 13:14-19
The Death of Elisha
14Now when Elisha had fallen sick with the illness of which he was to die, Joash king of Israel went down to him and wept before him, crying, n“My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” 15And Elisha said to him, “Take a bow and arrows.” So he took a bow and arrows. 16Then he said to the king of Israel, “Draw the bow,” and he drew it. And Elisha laid his hands on the king’s hands. 17And he said, “Open the window eastward,” and he opened it. Then Elisha said, “Shoot,” and he shot. And he said, “The Lord’s arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Syria! For you shall fight the Syrians in oAphek until you have made an end of them.” 18And he said, “Take the arrows,” and he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground with them.” And he struck three times and stopped. 19Then pthe man of God was angry with him and said, “You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck down Syria until you had made an end of it, but now you will strike down Syria only qthree times.”1 Chronicles 29:18-19
