Reuben and Gad Settle in Gilead

1Now the people of Reuben and the people of Gad had a very great number of livestock. And they saw the land of aJazer and the land of Gilead, and behold, the place was a place for livestock. 2So the people of Gad and the people of Reuben came and said to Moses and to Eleazar the priest and to the chiefs of the congregation, 3 bAtaroth, cDibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, dNebo, and Beon, 4the land ethat the Lord struck down before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock, and your servants have livestock.”

Numbers 32:33-42

33And fMoses gave to them, to the people of Gad and to the people of Reuben and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land and its cities with their territories, the cities of the land throughout the country. 34And the people of Gad built gDibon, hAtaroth, iAroer, 35Atroth-shophan, jJazer, Jogbehah, 36 kBeth-nimrah and Beth-haran, lfortified cities, and folds for sheep. 37And the people of Reuben built mHeshbon, nElealeh, Kiriathaim, 38 oNebo, and pBaal-meon ( qtheir names were changed), and rSibmah. And they gave other names to the cities that they built. 39And the sons of sMachir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and captured it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were in it. 40And Moses tgave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he settled in it. 41And uJair the son of Manasseh went and captured their villages, and called them Havvoth-jair.
 Havvoth-jair means the villages of Jair
42And Nobah went and captured Kenath and its villages, and called it Nobah, after his own name.

Deuteronomy 2:31-37

31And the Lord said to me, ‘Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land over to you. Begin to take possession, that you may occupy his land.’ 32Then wSihon came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Jahaz. 33And xthe Lord our God gave him over to us, and ywe defeated him and his sons and all his people. 34And we captured all his cities at that time and devoted to destruction
That is, set apart ( devoted) as an offering to the Lord (for destruction)
every aacity, men, women, and children. We left no survivors.
35Only the livestock we took as spoil for ourselves, with the plunder of the cities that we captured. 36 abFrom Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and from acthe city that is in the valley, as far as Gilead, there was not a city too high for us. adThe Lord our God gave all into our hands. 37Only to the land of the sons of Ammon you did not draw near, that is, to all the banks of the river aeJabbok and the cities of the hill country, whatever the Lord our God had forbidden us.

Deuteronomy 29:7

7And when you came to this place, afSihon the king of Heshbon and Og the king of Bashan came out against us to battle, but we defeated them.

Joshua 9:10

10 agand all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon the king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, who lived in ahAshtaroth.

1Now these are the kings of the land whom the people of Israel defeated and took possession of their land beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise, from aithe Valley of the Arnon to Mount Hermon, with all ajthe Arabah eastward: 2 akSihon king of the Amorites who lived at Heshbon and ruled from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and alfrom the middle of the valley as far as the amriver Jabbok, the boundary of the Ammonites, that is, half of Gilead, 3and anthe Arabah aoto the Sea of Chinneroth eastward, and in the direction of Beth-jeshimoth, to the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, southward to the foot of apthe slopes of Pisgah;

Joshua 24:8

8Then I brought you to the land of the Amorites, who lived on the other side of the Jordan. avThey fought with you, and I gave them into your hand, and you took possession of their land, and I destroyed them before you.
