Numbers 33:55

55But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then those of them whom you let remain shall be as abarbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall trouble you in the land where you dwell.

11and Gilead, and the bregion of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and all Mount Hermon, and call Bashan to Salecah;

Joshua 23:12-13

12For if you turn back and cling to the remnant of these nations remaining among you dand make marriages with them, so that you associate with them and they with you, 13know for certain that ethe Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations before you, fbut they shall be a snare and a trap for you, a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good ground that the Lord your God has given you.

Israel’s Disobedience

1Now the angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to gBochim. And he said, “I brought you up from Egypt and brought you into the land that I swore to give to your fathers. I said, h‘I will never break my covenant with you, 2 iand you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; jyou shall break down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed my voice. What is this you have done? 3So now I say, kI will not drive them out before you, but they shall become lthorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare to you.”
