Proverbs 1:24-32

24 aBecause I have called and byou refused to listen,
have cstretched out my hand and no one has heeded,
25because you have dignored all my counsel
and ewould have none of my reproof,
26I also fwill laugh at your calamity;
I will mock when gterror strikes you,
27when terror strikes you like ha storm
and your calamity comes like a whirlwind,
when distress and anguish come upon you.
28 iThen they will call upon me, but I will not answer;
they will seek me diligently but will not find me.
29Because they jhated knowledge
and kdid not choose the fear of the Lord,
30 lwould have none of my counsel
and mdespised all my reproof,
31therefore they shall eat nthe fruit of their way,
and have otheir fill of their own devices.
32For the simple are killed by ptheir turning away,
and qthe complacency of fools destroys them;

Matthew 20:1-5

Laborers in the Vineyard

1For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 2After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius
A  denarius was a day’s wage for a laborer
a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
3And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 4and to them he said, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.’ 5So they went. Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same.

Come out to meet him.’ 7Then all those virgins rose and ztrimmed their lamps. 8And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ 10And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and aathose who were ready went in with him to abthe marriage feast, and acthe door was shut.
