Proverbs 1:24-32

24 ^aBecause I have called and ^byou refused to listen,
have ^cstretched out my hand and no one has heeded,
25 because you have ^dignored all my counsel
and ^ewould have none of my reproof,
26 I also ^fwill laugh at your calamity;
I will mock when ^gterror strikes you,
27 when terror strikes you like ^ha storm
and your calamity comes like a whirlwind,
when distress and anguish come upon you.
28 ⁱThen they will call upon me, but I will not answer;
they will seek me diligently but will not find me.
29 Because they ^jhated knowledge
and ^kdid not choose the fear of the Lord,
30 ^lwould have none of my counsel
and ^mdespised all my reproof,
31 therefore they shall eat ⁿthe fruit of their way,
and have ^otheir fill of their own devices.
32 For the simple are killed by ^ptheir turning away,

Laborers in the Vineyard

1 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 2 After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius ^{▼▼A denarius was a day’s wage for a laborer} a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 4 and to them he said, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.’ 5 So they went. Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same.

The Parable of the Ten Virgins

1 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ^sten virgins who took their lamps ^{▼▼Or torches} and went to meet ^uthe bridegroom. ^{▼▼Some manuscripts add and the bride} 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were ^wwise. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5 As the bridegroom ^xwas delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. 6 But ^yat midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ 7 Then all those virgins rose and ^ztrimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and ^aathose who were ready went in with him to ^abthe marriage feast, and ^acthe door was shut.
