15 aA rich man’s wealth is his strong city;
the poverty of the poor is their ruin.

Mark 6:2-3

2And bon the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and cmany who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands? 3 dIs not this ethe carpenter, the son of Mary and fbrother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And gthey took offense at him.

John 9:24-34

24So for the second time they called the man who had been blind and said to him, jGive glory to God. We know that kthis man is a sinner.” 25He answered, “Whether he is a sinner I do not know. One thing I do know, that though I lwas blind, now I see.” 26They said to him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?” 27He answered them, m“I have told you already, and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?” 28And they reviled him, saying, “You are his disciple, but nwe are disciples of Moses. 29We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, owe do not know where he comes from.” 30The man answered, “Why, this is pan amazing thing! qYou do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes. 31We know that rGod does not listen to sinners, but sif anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him. 32Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind. 33 tIf this man were not from God, he could do nothing.” 34They answered him, uYou were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?” And they vcast him out.

1 Corinthians 1:26-29

26For consider your calling, brothers: wnot many of you were wise according to worldly standards,
Greek  according to the flesh
not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.
27But yGod chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; zGod chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28God chose what is low and despised in the world, even aathings that are not, to abbring to nothing things that are, 29so acthat no human being
Greek  no flesh
might boast in the presence of God.

James 2:2-6

2For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, 3and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” aewhile you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,” 4have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become afjudges with evil thoughts? 5Listen, my beloved brothers, aghas not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be ahrich in faith and heirs of aithe kingdom, ajwhich he has promised to those who love him? 6But you akhave dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who aldrag you aminto court?
