The Parable of the Ten Virgins

1Then the kingdom of heaven will be like cten virgins who took their lamps

2Five of them were foolish, and five were gwise. 3For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 4but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5As the bridegroom hwas delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. 6But iat midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ 7Then all those virgins rose and jtrimmed their lamps. 8And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ 10And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and kthose who were ready went in with him to lthe marriage feast, and mthe door was shut. 11Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, nLord, lord, open to us.’ 12 oBut he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, pI do not know you.’

Luke 13:25

A Rest for the People of God

7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says,

xToday, if you hear his voice,
8do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,
on the day of testing in the wilderness,
9where your fathers put me to the test
and saw my works for yforty years.
10Therefore I was provoked with that generation,
and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart;
they have not known my ways.’
11 zAs I swore in my wrath,
‘They shall not enter my rest.’”
12Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from aathe living God. 13But abexhort one another every day, as long as it is calledtoday,” that none of you may be hardened by acthe deceitfulness of sin. 14For we have come to share in Christ, adif indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. 15As it is said,

aeToday, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
