Proverbs 16:18

18 aPride goes before destruction,
and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Proverbs 18:12

12 bBefore destruction a man’s heart is haughty,
but chumility comes before honor.

Isaiah 10:12-15

12 dWhen the Lord has finished all his work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, ehe
Hebrew I
will punish the speech of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and the boastful look in his eyes.
13 gFor he says:

“By the strength of my hand I have done it,
and by my wisdom, for I have understanding;
I remove the boundaries of peoples,
and plunder their treasures;
like a bull I bring down those who sit on thrones.
14My hand has found like a nest
the wealth of the peoples;
and as one gathers eggs that have been forsaken,
so I have gathered all the earth;
and there was none that moved a wing
or opened the mouth or chirped.”
15 Shall hthe axe boast over him who hews with it,
or the saw magnify itself against him who wields it?
As if a rod should wield him who lifts it,
or as if a staff should lift him who is not wood!

Isaiah 14:13-15

13You said in your heart,
i‘I will ascend to heaven;
above the stars of God
jI will set my throne on high;
I will sit on the mount of assembly
in the far reaches of the north;
Or  in the remote parts of Zaphon

14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High.’
15 lBut you are brought down to Sheol,
to the far reaches of the pit.

Ezekiel 28:2-9

2 mSon of man, say to nthe prince of Tyre, Thus says the Lord God:

o“Because your heart is proud,
and pyou have said, ‘I am a god,
I sit in the seat of the gods,
in the heart of the seas,’
yet qyou are but a man, and no god,
rthough you make your heart like the heart of a god
3 syou are indeed wiser tthan uDaniel;
no secret is hidden from you;
4by your wisdom and your understanding
vyou have made wealth for yourself,
and have gathered gold and silver
into your treasuries;
5by your great wisdom in your trade
you have increased your wealth,
and wyour heart has become proud in your wealth
6therefore thus says the Lord God:
xBecause you make your heart
like the heart of a god,
7therefore, behold, I will bring yforeigners upon you,
the most ruthless of the nations;
and they shall draw their swords against zthe beauty of your wisdom
and defile aayour splendor.
8 abThey shall thrust you down into the pit,
acand you shall die the death of the slain
in the heart of the seas.
9 adWill you still say, ‘I am a god,’
in the presence of those who kill you,
though aeyou are but a man, and no god,
in the hands of those who slay you?

Daniel 5:20

20But afwhen his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, aghe was brought down from his kingly throne, and his glory was taken from him.

Daniel 5:23-30

23but you have lifted up yourself against ahthe Lord of heaven. And aithe vessels of his house have been brought in before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines have drunk wine from them. ajAnd you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or know, akbut the God in whose hand is your breath, and alwhose are all your ways, amyou have not honored.

24Then from his presence anthe hand was sent, and this writing was inscribed. 25And this is the writing that was inscribed: Mene, Mene, Tekel, and Parsin. 26This is the interpretation of the matter: Mene, God has numbered
 Mene sounds like the Aramaic for  numbered
the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end;
27Tekel, apyou have been weighed
 Tekel sounds like the Aramaic for  weighed
in the balances and found wanting;
28Peres, your kingdom is divided and given to arthe Medes and asPersians.”
 Peres (the singular of  Parsin) sounds like the Aramaic for  divided and for Persia

29Then auBelshazzar gave the command, and Daniel avwas clothed with purple, a chain of gold was put around his neck, and a proclamation was made about him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

30 awThat very night axBelshazzar the ayChaldean king was killed.
