Matthew 6:1-7

Giving to the Needy

1Beware of cpracticing your righteousness before other people in order dto be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

2 eThus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may fbe praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have greceived their reward. 3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. hAnd your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

The Lord’s Prayer

5And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love ito stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. jTruly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6But when you pray, kgo into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. lAnd your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

7And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as mthe Gentiles do, for nthey think that they will be heard ofor their many words.

Some manuscripts add much, or often
but your disciples do not fast?”

Matthew 15:2-9

2 tWhy do your disciples break uthe tradition of the elders? vFor they do not wash their hands when they eat.” 3He answered them, And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? 4For God commanded, wHonor your father and your mother,’ and, x‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ 5But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or his mother, “What you would have gained from me is given to God,”
Or  is an offering
6he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have zmade void the word
Some manuscripts law
of God.
7 abYou hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said:

8 ac“‘This people honors me with their lips,
but their heart is far from me;
9in vain do they worship me,
teaching as addoctrines the commandments of men.’”

Matthew 23:29

29 aoWoe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous,

Luke 18:12

12 apI fast twice a week; aqI give tithes of all that I get.’
