A Samaritan Village Rejects Jesus

51When the days drew near for phim to be taken up, qhe set his face rto go to Jerusalem. 52And she sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of tthe Samaritans, to make preparations for him. 53But uthe people did not receive him, because vhis face was set toward Jerusalem. 54And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell wfire to come down from heaven and consume them?”

Ananias and Sapphira

1But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, 2and with his wife’s knowledge ahhe kept back for himself some of the proceeds and brought only a part of it and ailaid it at the apostlesfeet. 3But Peter said, “Ananias, why has ajSatan filled your heart to lie akto the Holy Spirit and alto keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? 4While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but amto God.” 5When Ananias heard these words, he anfell down and breathed his last. And aogreat fear came upon all who heard of it. 6The young men rose and apwrapped him up and carried him out and buried him.

7After an interval of about three hours his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8And Peter said to her, “Tell me whether you

Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” 10Immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. When the young men came in they found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11And atgreat fear came upon the whole church and upon all who heard of these things.

Barnabas and Saul on Cyprus

4So, being sent out awby the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. 5When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God axin the synagogues of the Jews. And they had ayJohn to azassist them. 6When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they came upon a certain bamagician, bba Jewish false prophet named Bar-Jesus. 7He was with bcthe proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, who summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. 8But Elymas the bdmagician (for that is the meaning of his name) beopposed them, seeking to turn bfthe proconsul away from the faith. 9But Saul, who was also called Paul, bgfilled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him 10and said, “You bhson of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and bivillainy, will you not stop bjmaking crooked bkthe straight paths of the Lord? 11And now, behold, blthe hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and unable to see the sun for a time.” Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him, and he went about seeking bmpeople to lead him by the hand. 12Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had occurred, for he was astonished at bnthe teaching of the Lord.
