7But when he saw many of aathe Pharisees and abSadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, ac“You brood of advipers! Who warned you to flee from aethe wrath to come? 8Bear fruit afin keeping with repentance. 9And do not presume to say to yourselves, ag‘We have Abraham as our father,’ for I tell you, God is able from ahthese stones to raise up children for Abraham. 10Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. aiEvery tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

11 ajI baptize you with water akfor repentance, but alhe who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you amwith the Holy Spirit and anfire. 12His aowinnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and apgather his wheat into the barn, aqbut the chaff he will burn with arunquenchable fire.”

others and busent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go.
2 bvAnd he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. bwTherefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. 3Go your way; bxbehold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. 4 byCarry no moneybag, no knapsack, no sandals, and bzgreet no one on the road. 5Whatever house you enter, first say, caPeace be to this house!’ 6And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, cbit will return to you. 7And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for ccthe laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. 8Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you. 9Heal the sick in it and say to them, cd‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, 11 ceEven the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you.
