Psalms 1

The Way of the Righteous and the Wicked

1 Blessed is the man
The singular Hebrew word for  man (ish) is used here to portray a representative example of a godly person; see Preface

who bwalks not in cthe counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in dthe way of sinners,
nor esits in fthe seat of gscoffers;
2but his hdelight is in the law
Or instruction
of the Lord,
and on his jlaw he meditates day and night.
3 He is like ka tree
planted by lstreams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its mleaf does not wither.
nIn all that he does, he prospers.
4The wicked are not so,
but are like ochaff that the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked pwill not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in qthe congregation of the righteous;
6for the Lord rknows sthe way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Psalms 43

Send Out Your Light and Your Truth

1 tVindicate me, O God, and udefend my cause
against an ungodly people,
from vthe deceitful and unjust man
deliver me!
2For you are wthe God in whom I take refuge;
why have you xrejected me?
Why do I ygo about mourning
because of the oppression of the enemy?
3 zSend out your light and your truth;
let them lead me;
let them bring me to your aaholy hill
and to your abdwelling!
4Then I will go to the altar of God,
to God my exceeding joy,
and I will praise you with the lyre,
O God, my God.
5 acWhy are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
adHope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God.
