Psalms 1

The Way of the Righteous and the Wicked

1 Blessed is the man
The singular Hebrew word for  man (ish) is used here to portray a representative example of a godly person; see Preface

who bwalks not in cthe counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in dthe way of sinners,
nor esits in fthe seat of gscoffers;
2but his hdelight is in the law
Or instruction
of the Lord,
and on his jlaw he meditates day and night.
3 He is like ka tree
planted by lstreams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its mleaf does not wither.
nIn all that he does, he prospers.
4The wicked are not so,
but are like ochaff that the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked pwill not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in qthe congregation of the righteous;
6for the Lord rknows sthe way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Psalms 94

The Lord Will Not Forsake His People

1 O Lord, God of tvengeance,
O God of vengeance, ushine forth!
2 vRise up, O wjudge of the earth;
repay to the xproud what they deserve!
3O Lord, yhow long shall the wicked,
how long shall zthe wicked exult?
4They pour out their aaarrogant words;
all abthe evildoers boast.
5They accrush your people, O Lord,
and afflict your heritage.
6They kill adthe widow and the sojourner,
and murder aethe fatherless;
7 afand they say, “The Lord does not see;
the God of Jacob does not perceive.”
8 agUnderstand, O dullest of the people!
Fools, when will you be wise?
9 ahHe who planted the ear, does he not hear?
He who formed the eye, does he not see?
10He who aidisciplines the nations, does he not rebuke?
He who ajteaches man knowledge
11 akthe Lordknows the thoughts of man,
that they are albut a breath.
Septuagint  they are futile

12 anBlessed is the man whom you aodiscipline, O Lord,
and whom you teach out of your law,
13to give him aprest from aqdays of trouble,
until ara pit is dug for the wicked.
14 asFor the Lord will not forsake his atpeople;
he will not abandon his auheritage;
15for avjustice will return to the righteous,
and all the upright in heart will awfollow it.
16 axWho rises up for me against the wicked?
Who stands up for me against evildoers?
17 ayIf the Lord had not been my help,
my soul would soon have lived in the land of azsilence.
18When I thought, ba“My foot slips,”
your steadfast love, O Lord, bbheld me up.
19When the cares of my heart are many,
your consolations cheer my soul.
20Can bcwicked rulers be allied with you,
those who frame injustice by bdstatute?
21They beband together against the life of the righteous
and condemn bfthe innocent to death.
Hebrew  condemn innocent blood

22But the Lord has become my bhstronghold,
and my God bithe rock of my bjrefuge.
23He will bring back on them bktheir iniquity
and blwipe them out for their wickedness;
the Lord our God will wipe them out.
