Psalms 1:1-3

The Way of the Righteous and the Wicked

1 Blessed is the man
The singular Hebrew word for  man (ish) is used here to portray a representative example of a godly person; see Preface

who bwalks not in cthe counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in dthe way of sinners,
nor esits in fthe seat of gscoffers;
2but his hdelight is in the law
Or instruction
of the Lord,
and on his jlaw he meditates day and night.
3 He is like ka tree
planted by lstreams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its mleaf does not wither.
nIn all that he does, he prospers.

Psalms 92:13-15

13They are planted in the house of the Lord;
they flourish in othe courts of our God.

15 pto declare that the Lord is upright;
he is my qrock, and there is rno unrighteousness in him.

Luke 6:43-44

A Tree and Its Fruit

Luke 13:9

9Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.’”

John 15:1-8

I Am the True Vine

1I am the ytrue vine, and my Father is zthe vinedresser. 2 aaEvery branch in me that does not bear fruit abhe takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, acthat it may bear more fruit. 3Already adyou are clean aebecause of the word that I have spoken to you. 4 afAbide agin me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5I am the vine; ahyou are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that aibears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. 6If anyone does not abide in me ajhe is thrown away like a branch and withers; akand the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7If alyou abide in me, and my words abide in you, amask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 anBy this my Father is glorified, that you aobear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.

John 15:16

16You did not choose me, but apI chose you and appointed you that you should go and aqbear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that arwhatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
