Psalms 106:15-48

15he agave them what they asked,
but sent ba wasting disease among them.
16 When men in the camp cwere jealous of Moses
and Aaron, dthe holy one of the Lord,
17 ethe earth opened and swallowed up Dathan,
and covered the company of Abiram.
18 fFire also broke out in their company;
the flame burned up the wicked.
19 They gmade a calf in Horeb
and worshiped a metal image.
20They hexchanged the glory of God
Hebrew  exchanged their glory

for the image of an ox that eats grass.
21They jforgot God, their Savior,
who had done great things in Egypt,
22wondrous works in kthe land of Ham,
and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.
23Therefore lhe said he would destroy them—
had not Moses, his mchosen one,
nstood in the breach before him,
to turn away his wrath from destroying them.
24 Then they odespised pthe pleasant land,
having qno faith in his promise.
25They rmurmured in their tents,
and did not obey the voice of the Lord.
26Therefore he sraised his hand and swore to them
that he would make them fall in the wilderness,
27and would make their offspring fall among the nations,
tscattering them among the lands.
28 Then they uyoked themselves to the vBaal of Peor,
and ate sacrifices offered to wthe dead;
29they provoked the Lord to anger with their deeds,
and a plague broke out among them.
30Then xPhinehas stood up and intervened,
and the plague was stayed.
31And that was ycounted to him as righteousness
from generation to generation forever.
32 They zangered him at the waters of Meribah,
and it went ill with Moses on their account,
33for they aamade his spirit bitter,
Or  they rebelled against God’s Spirit

and he acspoke rashly with his lips.
34 They did not addestroy the peoples,
aeas the Lord commanded them,
35but they afmixed with the nations
and learned to do as they did.
36They served their idols,
which became aga snare to them.
37They ahsacrificed their sons
and their daughters to aithe demons;
38they poured out innocent blood,
the blood of their sons and daughters,
whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
and the land was ajpolluted with blood.
39Thus they akbecame unclean by their acts,
and alplayed the whore in their deeds.
40 Then amthe anger of the Lord was kindled against anhis people,
and he abhorred his aoheritage;
41he apgave them into the hand of the nations,
so that those who hated them ruled over them.
42Their enemies aqoppressed them,
and they were brought into subjection under their power.
43 arMany times he delivered them,
but they were rebellious in their aspurposes
and were atbrought low through their iniquity.
44 Nevertheless, he looked upon their distress,
when he auheard their cry.
45For their sake he avremembered his covenant,
and awrelented according to axthe abundance of his steadfast love.
46He caused them to be aypitied
by all those who held them captive.
47 azSave us, O Lord our God,
and bagather us from among the nations,
that we may give thanks to your holy name
and glory in your praise.
48 bbBlessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting!
bcAnd let all the people say, “Amen!”
bdPraise the Lord!

1 Corinthians 10:5-10

5Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for bethey were overthrown
Or  were laid low
in the wilderness.

6Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as bgthey did. 7 bhDo not be idolaters bias some of them were; as it is written, bj“The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.” 8 bkWe must not indulge in sexual immorality blas some of them did, and bmtwenty-three thousand fell in a single day. 9We must not put Christ
Some manuscripts the Lord
to the test, boas some of them did and bpwere destroyed by serpents,
10nor grumble, bqas some of them did and brwere destroyed by bsthe Destroyer.
