Psalms 106:36-39

36They served their idols,
which became aa snare to them.
37They bsacrificed their sons
and their daughters to cthe demons;
38they poured out innocent blood,
the blood of their sons and daughters,
whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
and the land was dpolluted with blood.
39Thus they ebecame unclean by their acts,
and fplayed the whore in their deeds.

Jeremiah 3:1-2

1 gIf
Septuagint, Syriac; Hebrew Saying, “If
a man divorces his wife
and she goes from him
and becomes another man’s wife,
will he return to her?
iWould not that land be greatly polluted?
jYou have played the whore with many lovers;
and would you return to me?

declares the Lord.
2Lift up your eyes to kthe bare heights, and see!
Where have you not been ravished?
lBy the waysides you have sat awaiting lovers
like an Arab in the wilderness.
mYou have polluted the land
with your vile whoredom.

Ezekiel 7:20-24

20 nHis beautiful ornament they used for pride, and othey made their abominable images and their detestable things of it. Therefore pI make it an unclean thing to them. 21And I will give it into the hands of qforeigners for prey, rand to the wicked of the earth for spoil, and sthey shall profane it. 22I will turn my face from them, and tthey shall profane my treasured
Or secret
place. Robbers shall enter vand profane it.

23 wForge a chain!
Probably refers to an instrument of captivity
yFor the land is full of bloody crimes zand the city is full of violence.
24I will bring aathe worst of the nations to take possession of their houses. abI will put an end to the pride of the strong, acand their holy places
By revocalization (compare Septuagint); Hebrew  and those who sanctify them
shall be profaned.

Ezekiel 22:24-31

24Son of man, say to her, You are a land that is aenot cleansed afor rained upon in the day of indignation. 25 agThe conspiracy of her prophets in her midst is ahlike a roaring lion aitearing the prey; they have devoured human lives; they have taken treasure and precious things; they have made many widows in her midst. 26 ajHer priests akhave done violence to my law and alhave profaned my holy things. amThey have made no distinction between the holy and the common, neither have they taught the difference between the unclean and the clean, and anthey have disregarded my Sabbaths, aoso that I am profaned among them. 27 apHer princes in her midst are like wolves aqtearing the prey, arshedding blood, destroying lives to get dishonest gain. 28And asher prophets have smeared whitewash for them, atseeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord God,’ when the Lord has not spoken. 29The people of the land auhave practiced extortion and committed robbery. They have oppressed the poor and needy, and avhave extorted from the sojourner without justice. 30 awAnd I sought for a man among them axwho should build up the wall ayand stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none. 31Therefore azI have poured out my indignation upon them. I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath. I have returned batheir way upon their heads, declares the Lord God.”

Micah 2:10
