Psalms 11

The Lord Is in His Holy Temple

To the choirmaster. Of David.

1 In the Lord I take refuge;
how can you say to my soul,
aFlee like a bird to your mountain,
2for behold, the wicked bbend the bow;
cthey have fitted their arrow to the string
to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart;
3if dthe foundations are destroyed,
what can the righteous do?”
Or for the foundations will be destroyed; what has the righteous done?

4 fThe Lord is in his holy temple;
the Lord’s gthrone is in heaven;
his eyes see, his eyelids htest the children of man.
5The Lord itests the righteous,
but jhis soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.
6Let him rain coals on the wicked;
kfire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be lthe portion of their cup.
7For the Lord is righteous;
he mloves righteous deeds;
nthe upright shall behold his face.

Psalms 31

Into Your Hand I Commit My Spirit

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

1 oIn you, O Lord, do I ptake refuge;
qlet me never be put to shame;
in your rrighteousness deliver me!
2Incline your ear to me;
rescue me speedily!
Be sa rock of trefuge for me,
a strong fortress to save me!
3 For you are my rock and my fortress;
and for your uname’s sake you lead me and guide me;
4you vtake me out of wthe net they have hidden for me,
for you are my xrefuge.
5 yInto your hand I commit my spirit;
you have redeemed me, O Lord, zfaithful God.
6 I aahate
Masoretic Text; one Hebrew manuscript, Septuagint, Syriac, Jerome You hate
those who pay acregard to worthless adidols,
but I trust in the Lord.
7I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love,
because you have seen my affliction;
you have aeknown the distress of my soul,
8and you have not afdelivered me into the hand of the enemy;
you have set my feet in aga broad place.
9 Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am ahin distress;
aimy eye is wasted from grief;
my soul and my body also.
10For my life is spent with sorrow,
and my years with sighing;
my strength fails because of my iniquity,
and ajmy bones waste away.
11 Because of all my adversaries I have become aka reproach,
especially to my alneighbors,
and an object of dread to my acquaintances;
those who see me in the street amflee from me.
12I have been anforgotten like one who is dead;
I have become like aoa broken vessel.
13For I aphear the whispering of many
terror on every side!—
aqas they scheme together against me,
as they plot to take my life.
14 But I artrust in you, O Lord;
I say, “You are my God.”
15My astimes are in your hand;
atrescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!
16 auMake your face shine on your servant;
save me in your steadfast love!
17O Lord, avlet me not be put to shame,
for I call upon you;
let the wicked be put to shame;
let them go awsilently to Sheol.
18Let the lying lips be mute,
which axspeak ayinsolently against the righteous
in pride and contempt.
19 Oh, how abundant is your goodness,
which you have stored up for those who fear you
and worked for those who take refuge in you,
azin the sight of the children of mankind!
20In bathe cover of your presence you hide them
from the plots of men;
you bbstore them in your shelter
from the strife of tongues.
21 Blessed be the Lord,
for he has wondrously bcshown his steadfast love to me
when I was in bda besieged city.
22I had said in my bealarm,
Or  in my haste

“I am bgcut off from bhyour sight.”
But you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy
when I cried to you for help.
23 Love the Lord, all you his bisaints!
The Lord preserves the faithful
but abundantly bjrepays the one who acts in pride.
24 bkBe strong, and let your heart take courage,
all you who wait for the Lord!
