Jesus the Great High Priest

Hebrews 5:1-10

1For every high priest chosen from among men qis appointed to act on behalf of men rin relation to God, sto offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2 tHe can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself uis beset with weakness. 3Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins vjust as he does for those of the people. 4And wno one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, xjust as Aaron was.

5So also Christ ydid not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him,

zYou are my Son,
today I have begotten you”;
6as he says also in another place,

after the order of Melchizedek.”
7In the days of his flesh, abJesus

offered up prayers and supplications, adwith loud cries and tears, to him aewho was able to save him from death, and afhe was heard because of his reverence.
8Although aghe was a son, ahhe learned obedience through what he suffered. 9And aibeing made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, 10being designated by God a high priest ajafter the order of Melchizedek.

Hebrews 6:20

20where Jesus has gone akas a forerunner on our behalf, alhaving become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

Hebrews 7:26

26For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, amholy, innocent, unstained, anseparated from sinners, and aoexalted above the heavens.

Jesus, High Priest of a Better Covenant

1Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, apone who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 2a minister in the holy places, in aqthe true tent
Or tabernacle; also verse 5
that the Lord asset up, not man.
3For atevery high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus auit is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer.
