Psalms 115:4-8

4 aTheir idols are silver and gold,
bthe work of human hands.
5They have mouths, cbut do not speak;
eyes, but do not see.
6They have ears, but do not hear;
noses, but do not smell.
7They have hands, but do not feel;
feet, but do not walk;
and they do not make a sound in their throat.
8 dThose who make them become like them;
so do all who trust in them.

Psalms 135:15-18

15 eThe idols of the nations are silver and gold,
the work of human hands.
16They have mouths, but do not speak;
they have eyes, but do not see;
17they have ears, but do not hear,
nor is there any breath in their mouths.
18Those who make them become like them,
so do all who trust in them.

Isaiah 40:19-20

19 fAn idol! A craftsman casts it,
and a goldsmith overlays it with gold
and casts for it silver chains.
20 gHe who is too impoverished for an offering
chooses wood
Or  He chooses valuable wood
that will not rot;
he seeks out a skillful craftsman
to set up an idol that will not move.

Isaiah 42:17

17 iThey are turned back and utterly put to shame,
who trust in carved idols,
who say to metal images,
“You are our gods.”

Isaiah 46:6-7

6 jThose who lavish gold from the purse,
and weigh out silver in the scales,
hire a goldsmith, and he makes it into a god;
kthen they fall down and worship!
7 lThey lift it to their shoulders, they carry it,
they set it in its place, and it stands there;
mit cannot move from its place.
If one cries to it, it does not answer
or save him from his trouble.

Daniel 3:1-18

Nebuchadnezzar’s Golden Image

1King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits
A  cubit was about 18 inches or 45 centimeters
and its breadth six cubits. He set it up on othe plain of Dura, in pthe province of Babylon.
2Then King Nebuchadnezzar sent to gather qthe satraps, the prefects, and rthe governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the justices, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces to come to the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 3Then sthe satraps, the prefects, and the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the justices, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces gathered for the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. And they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 4And the herald tproclaimed aloud, “You are commanded, O upeoples, nations, and languages, 5that when you hear the vsound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, you ware to fall down and worship the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. 6And whoever does not fall down and worship shall immediately xbe cast into a burning fiery furnace.” 7Therefore, as soon as all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, all ythe peoples, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

The Fiery Furnace

8Therefore at that time certain zChaldeans aacame forward and maliciously accused the Jews. 9They declared
Aramaic answered and said; also verses 24, 26
to King Nebuchadnezzar, “O king, live forever!
10You, O king, achave made a decree, that every man who adhears the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, aeshall fall down and worship the golden image. 11And whoever does not fall down and worship afshall be cast into a burning fiery furnace. 12There are certain Jews whom you have agappointed over the affairs of ahthe province of Babylon: aiShadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, ajpay no attention to you; they do not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”

13Then Nebuchadnezzar akin furious rage commanded that alShadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought. So they brought these men before the king. 14Nebuchadnezzar answered and said to them, “Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the golden image that I have set up? 15Now if you are ready when amyou hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, well and good.
Aramaic lacks  well and good
But if you do not worship, aoyou shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace. And apwho is the god who will deliver you out of my hands?”

16 aqShadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17If this be so, arour God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.
Or If our God whom we serve is able to deliver us, he will deliver us from the burning fiery furnace and out of your hand, O king.
18But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”
