Peter Denies Jesus

54 ^lThen they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest’s house, ^mand Peter was following at a distance. 55 ⁿAnd when they had kindled a fire in the middle of ^othe courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat down among them. 56 Then a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the light and looking closely at him, said, “This man also was with him.” 57 But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him.” 58 And a little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.” 59 And after an interval of about an hour still another ^pinsisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.” 60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 And the Lord turned and ^qlooked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, ^r“Before the rooster crows today, you will ^sdeny me three times.”

Romans 7:15-23

15 For I do not understand my own actions. For ^tI do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. 16 Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with ^uthe law, that it is good. 17 So now ^vit is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. 18 For I know that nothing good dwells ^win me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. 19 ^xFor I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want, ^yit is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.

21 So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. 22 For ^zI delight in the law of God, ^aain my inner being, 23 but I see in my members ^abanother law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.
