Psalms 12

The Faithful Have Vanished

To the choirmaster: according to The Sheminith.
Probably a musical or liturgical term
A Psalm of David.

1 Save, O Lord, for bthe godly one is gone;
for the faithful have vanished from among the children of man.
2Everyone cutters lies to his neighbor;
with dflattering lips and ea double heart they speak.
3 May the Lord cut off all fflattering lips,
the tongue that makes ggreat boasts,
4those who say, “With our tongue we will prevail,
our lips are with us; who is master over us?”
5 Because hthe poor are plundered, because the needy groan,
iI will now arise,” says the Lord;
“I will place him in the jsafety for which he longs.”
6 kThe words of the Lord are pure words,
like silver refined in a furnace on the ground,
purified seven times.
7 You, O Lord, will keep them;
you will guard us
Or  guard him
from this generation forever.
8On every side the wicked prowl,
as vileness is exalted among the children of man.

Psalms 35

Great Is the Lord

Of David.

1 Contend, O Lord, with those who mcontend with me;
nfight against those who fight against me!
2Take hold of oshield and buckler
and rise for my help!
3Draw the spear and javelin
Or  and close the way

against my pursuers!
Say to my soul,
“I am your salvation!”
4 qLet them be rput to shame and dishonor
who seek after my life!
Let them be sturned back and disappointed
who devise evil against me!
5Let them be like tchaff before the wind,
with the angel of the Lord driving them away!
6Let their way be dark and uslippery,
with the angel of the Lord pursuing them!
7 For vwithout cause wthey hid their net for me;
without cause they dug xa pit for my life.
The word  pit is transposed from the preceding line; Hebrew  For without cause they hid the pit of their net for me; without cause they dug for my life

8Let zdestruction come upon him aawhen he does not know it!
And let the net that he hid ensnare him;
let him fall into it—to his destruction!
9 Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord,
abexulting in his salvation.
10All my acbones shall say,
“O Lord, adwho is like you,
delivering the poor
from him who is too strong for him,
the poor and needy from him who robs him?”
11 aeMalicious
Or Violent
witnesses rise up;
they ask me of things that I do not know.
12 agThey repay me evil for good;
my soul is bereft.
Hebrew it is bereavement to my soul

13But I, aiwhen they were sick
I ajwore sackcloth;
I akafflicted myself with fasting;
I prayed alwith head bowed
Or my prayer shall turn back
on my chest.
14I went about as though I grieved for my friend or my brother;
as one who laments his mother,
I anbowed down in mourning.
15 But at my stumbling they rejoiced and gathered;
they gathered together against me;
aowretches whom I did not know
tore at me without ceasing;
16like profane mockers at a feast,
The meaning of the Hebrew phrase is uncertain

they aqgnash at me with their teeth.
17 How long, O Lord, will you arlook on?
Rescue me from their destruction,
asmy precious life from the lions!
18I will thank you in atthe great congregation;
in the mighty throng I will praise you.
19 auLet not those rejoice over me
who are avwrongfully my foes,
and let not those awwink the eye
who axhate me aywithout cause.
20For they do not speak peace,
but against those who are quiet in the land
they devise words of deceit.
21They azopen wide their mouths against me;
they say, baAha, Aha!
Our eyes have seen it!”
22 bbYou have seen, O Lord; bcbe not silent!
O Lord, bdbe not far from me!
23Awake and berouse yourself for bfmy vindication,
for my cause, my God and my Lord!
24 bgVindicate me, O Lord, my God,
according to your righteousness,
and bhlet them not rejoice over me!
25Let them not say in their hearts,
biAha, our heart’s desire!”
Let them not say, bj“We have swallowed him up.”
26 Let them be bkput to shame and disappointed altogether
who rejoice at my calamity!
Let them be blclothed with shame and dishonor
who bmmagnify themselves against me!
27 Let those who delight in my righteousness
shout for joy and be glad
bnand say evermore,
boGreat is the Lord,
who bpdelights in the welfare of his servant!”
28Then my bqtongue shall tell of your righteousness
and of your praise all the day long.
